in Authors, Gun Reviews, Handguns, Historical Guns, Misc., S.H. Blannelberry, This Week

From our friends over at the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry trade association:

Ashley Hlebinsky, the Robert W. Woodruff Curator at the Cody Firearms Museum, shows us a rare and unique “Deringer” pocket pistol and shares some history around the once popular derringer pistols.

The Cody Firearms Museum, including its research library, is one of five major museums at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. Visit the Cody Firearms Museum and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming in person or online at https://www.centerofthewest.org/explor…

Went through Cody years ago on a trip to Yellowstone, the firearms museum was just being built. Would love to be able to visit it now that it is complete. What I saw then was enough to make me want to go back!

I still didn’t see anything explaining the difference between “deringers” and derringers” except spell check flags the first as being misspelled.

“I still didn’t see anything explaining the difference between “deringers” and derringers” . The difference was not shown, but was verbally explained. Replay and LISTEN.

I have had several derengers including a John Hancock rotating pepper box and I never knew of two spellings I just thought it was a typo

The Deringer (one R) is the genuine article while the Derringer (2 R’s) is a copy. You were probably distracted by the cute gal an not listening to what she said

    • Matt August 1, 2016, 2:26 pm

Did you not watch the video? One R and it’s authentic, made by Henry Deringer, if it had two r’s it was a copy

Folks-The photo of Henry Deringer is actually of Eliphalet Remington!……Rich

It would be worth the trip just to meet Ashley Hlebinsky!

      • Glenn August 1, 2016, 5:05 am

Its “veins” not “vanes” (“yea firearms run in her vanes”)

    • Mike August 1, 2016, 3:20 pm

you are blind with poor taste

      • Willie-O November 4, 2017, 10:16 am

Damn Mike, that’s harsh !! Granted, she’s not as hot as my wife, but few are. I’ve always said that I’d rather be lucky than smart – good thing. She’s an attractive young lady and the fact that she knows something about guns is just an added bonus.

  • John July 29, 2016, 7:47 am

I did not know that. Now I’m just a wee bit smarter than a few minutes ago! Would love to go to that museum, but, Cody is a loooooonnnnnnng way from Miami.

I moved from Cody to Myrtle Beach ! Cody isn’t that far & to see the museum is well worth the trip. You get a 3 day pass when you visit the museum , it’s that large. Besides Yellowstone National Park is just outside Cody that in itself makes the trip worth your time.
