Israel Weapon Industries
https://iwi.us/
That’s no typo. Beginning in March, Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) will have TAVORs for sale here in the United States, and we caught a sneak peak of the famed bullpup at the SHOT Show. This is the same gun designed by Israeli defense forces after the 1982 Israel-Lebanon War, except it’s a semi-automatic—so you, too, can take one home. And with MSRPs that begin at $1,999, it’s not a bad deal for something this cool, although Julie Mac is holding out for one in pink (currently they will be available in flat dark earth and black). Chambered in 5.56 NATO, it has a magazine capacity of 30 cartridges, comes with either a 16.5- or 18-inch barrel and has a Picatinny rail atop for mounting optics or iron sights. Conversion kits will also be available to change chamberings to 9 mm or 5.45×39 mm. Southpaws rejoice. The TAVOR can be changed to fully left-handed operation, including the charging handle and, get this, the gun uses standard AR-15 magazines. Since the odds are pretty good you have a few of them hanging around, you don’t need to invest in a whole new kit. The cold-hammer-forged barrel comes with six groove, one-in-seven-inch rifling and the longer 18-inch-barreled versions still come in at a compact 27 5/8-inches in overall length.
It is really funny to go back and read some of the asinine comments people make with no (repeat absolutely NO) first hand knowledge of the weapon. Ammo is available everywhere, the Tavor handles and fires beautifully from either left or right without suffering “brass face”. Yes it really does eject the casing slightly forward (at least with 5.56 – the .223 is not as “hot” and will eject closer to perpendicular to the rifle. The $1,700 average retail price in the US is high but it is worth every penny. The swap kit to 9MM is pricey…around $900 USD retail but easy to do and great for home defense where the 5.56 might be a little too much. The Tavor is my go to rifle. I think they sold 23,000 of these since they were first introduced into the US.
There pretty cool I’ve got one man they r awesome but there like 5,200 dollars
Julie, I can get you a hot pink Tavor.
Guys. I can only hope that this weapon actually becomes available. The good folks at KelTec have a tremendous
R&D Dept, but the manufacturing side is WAY behind. I think the KTOG piece is a bit lower in price than this one but it matters not if they are not on dealers shelves. The current Obamanation scare will only worsen the supply pipeline problem. Anybody remember the primer scare a few years back??
The .223 ammo makers are all calling their stock brokers and travel agents for the latest vacation deals.
So by ar logic, all I need is a barrel swap to make this 300 black also?
300 BLK is a novelty round.
If you build it, they will come. I’ve been waiting for this. Now only rust and Obama (and $2000) stand in my way.
Oy! I vant one!!
I’ve been shooting my Tavor for 2 years now and it is without a doubt my favorite rifle in my cabinet!
i want one!! too bad assault weapons will be banned by the time these come out
… Get rid of that BUGGY “WordPress.”
why would you. try to being a weapon in to this country that they(gov) are trying to ban high cap; mags the price well those of us who would like to own one. just could not afford to buy one i think the co. is wasting it time in trying to sell in this country.
Mine, Mine.
Mine, Mine.
It is a cool looking gun. I think it would be a practical design for home defense. Can’t imagine hunting with it. Seems like it would take some getting used to. After years of Winchesters and Remingtons, I’m still getting used to an AR-15. Guess it’s kinda like a rear engine drive versus one under the hood …
Just my $0.02 worth
Let’s hope the gun grabbers don’t keep this puppy put of our hands. I anticipate that all the proposed bans will be defeated but I will rest easier once it has actually happened. With prices for garden variety AKs and ARs at such insane levels right now I suspect it will be a while before we can even get the gun for the high price of $1995!
Kinda looks like an Israeli Steyr to me, I could be wrong;-)
I have shot a full auto Steyr and it took some getting used to, what with the full pull auto and its tendency to twist on full auto, it is a formidable weapon in “trained” hands. A modernized semi-auto version of this weapon would make it an ideal close quarters security weapon, an 18” barrel in a 27″ inch package like this puppy? Where do I sign;-?
$1995 has got to be a misprint, wouldn’t give $750 for the gun. Where do you mount a bi-pod or front grip? No way.
The third one in line has a bipod. The thing is a bit short for a front grip since the front hand goes more or less just ahead of the trigger guard.
I looked around and found some pictures of this thing with a front grip attached.
Zahal has many accessories for this rifle including front grips that teloscope out to become bipods suports, an many other gagets that can be attached to this rifle.
Great, another rifle you probably will never see regardless of any proposals to import them; and even if some do squeak by the mark-up will be incredible, not to mention the fact that there is no ammo for the consumer to buy.
Great! Another ridiculous remark by someone who obviously didn’t read the article all the way. Yes they will be initially hard to find, and yes some will be priced @ greed levels, but they said the same thing about all new guns that are the latest “thing”, Pessimism 101? And did I not see where they come standard in .223 REM (5.56mm) of which there are billions of rounds available in 1000 round and greater lots if you so desire?
Before the latest gun grabbing sales pitch from the Obomination and his Demoncrats, you could have bought any one of the “latest thing” at many gun stores around the country (where they are not illegally banned), but now, good luck! MY local gun store laughs hysterically over the phone when you say the words “assault weapon”:-)
BTW the Diane Fienstien so called fallacious “Assault Weapons Ban” is nothing more than political pandering to the her Communist constituents and the Communist Media Collective and is DOA in the Senate, the House, ForGetAboutIt 😉
Read your reply, with some interest, concerning Fienstien, yes I know she is just waving the anti-gun flag as she always has and will until the day she is booted out of office but I disagree with your statement that are “billions of rounds available in 1000 round and greater lots if you so desire?” I just visited 6 major suppliers for consumers that I have brought tens of thousands of rounds from for the past 20 years and all I see is “SOLD OUT” or “Backordered.” I did find some practice “frangible ammo” for $1.00 a round.”
So I stand by original statement concerning ammo, “there isn’t any out there to purchase!” If you know of a distributer that has lots of 1000+ for sale, to the consumer, please post a link in a reply to this post, I’m always ready to buy. For some further edification you might read the article at: http://www.naturalnews.com/035649_DHS_ammunition_domestic_war.html. It might help clarify the shortage. Good Day!
I believe that the media keeps saying that the left doesn’t have the votes to pass gun control measures to do exactly what they did in 1994. To get us to act a bit more complacently while they muster those votes. In 1994 the word was that they were 5-6 votes short, forgetaboutit, its not happening, etc. Guess what we got Brady. Don’t fall for the B.S. that they don’t have the votes. Act as though they do and will unless you fight as hard as possible against it.
This looks incredible. Gonna bump this to the top of my wish list, assuming obummer doesn’t outlaw them.
I heard about this a few times and again the buzz at SHOT 2013. I think its sweet you can go from 5.57 to 9mm. I want me one.
The question is, which parts are made in the US to comply with the import laws? Barrel at least. And why bring back the Uzi pistol… it was awful…
Just to piss off Diane Frankenstein and Mayor Bloomie is good enough of a reason for me!
I would prefer to wait for “Him” with this in my hands 🙂
Yeah I agree on that 1 it is a sexy little dandy.
Oh man, I’ve only been waiting 10 YEARS for this…. about time!
I’ve always been interested in true bull pup designs and not quite sure why they never caught on in the states yet. I’ve been wanting to buy one or two to dissect and study but the prices are always outrageous. At $2k, this one is not much different.
Not much different? You can go from 5.56mm to 9mm with same weapon system..not much different? I disagree
You will have to change the barrel and magazine system to go from .223 to 9mm. I already do that with my AR 15.
“Completely” ambidextrous, eh? Well, then let’s see him load it up with a full mag, shoot 15 rounds right-handed, then 15 rounds left-handed, like you can with the FS2000, and let me know how it works out for his teeth.
What part of being able to switch ejection porting from right/left did you not understand.
I think he’s talking about without having to manually switch it.
If you would do just a small amount of research before you open your mouth an insert your foot, this rifle is completely able to be fired either right or left handed from a righthanded configuration with no problems. The FS2000 failed to have a shell ejection block so as the ejected casings flew straight out an to the rear, thus into the face of a lefthanded shooter that was trying to fire the gun lefthanded. I have had my Travor for 3 weeks now, I am ambidexterous, but prefer to fire rifles lefty, pistols righty, an have had no issues with my new rifle with over 700 rounds run thru it. An no brass in my teeth, in fact with the hotter loads i shoot the brass flies out to about the 2 oclock postion. The Travor, IMHO, is a far better design an constructed rifle.
Patrick, you obviously have experience with the new Israeli bull pup. I’ll be looking at it myself, for purchase.
However, it’s Tavor… not Travor… (it’s a nit, but important when you deride someone else for not doing their research).
Sof-sof!!!! (That’s Hebrew for “finally”!!!)
Some of us are waiting for Moshiach not another stupid rifle. Ad mosai!
You would probably want to visit the Moshiach website as opposed to one which is dedicated to firearms.
Nite zayn a shmukh.
