If you bow hunt, the thing that keeps you up at night is wondering if you’ll be able to recover the game you shoot. This new tool from Pro-Tracker Archery could help you sleep better and recover the game you shoot with much more success.
Pro-Tracker Recovery System
Basically, this tool deposits a tracker into the hide of the animal you shoot — almost like tracking a car in a spy movie. Your arrow travels through the target as usual, but the barbed hook on the transmitter catches on the way in and stays with the critter even though your arrow passes through.
The barbed transmitter is carried in an extension that you mount to the front of your arrow. Your broadhead then connects to the front of the extension. The whole apparatus adds 150 grains to your setup. Pro-Tracker says the transmitter has no effect on the flight of the arrow, besides adding weight and vertical drop.
Once the transmitter has deployed, the handheld receiver points the way to the animal. If you’ve ever used an avalanche beacon, this will be similar. It’s like playing hot or cold to find something — a high number means you’re hot (on the right track) and a low number means you’re cold.

The transmitter battery is rechargeable and lasts 18-20 hours and has a 2-mile range. This should help you find your kill even in inclement weather or in the dark when blood trails are hard to track. It’s currently legal to hunt with this tool in 43 states.
The transmitter uses internationally allowed frequencies. In the USA, it is broadcasting on Amateur Radio frequencies, and the FCC requires licensure to legally use this transmitter. It’d be interesting to know how many users get licensed.
The kit comes with one transmitter and one dummy transmitter so you can sight-in your bow with it. It also includes the receiver and battery charger and the kit is $549. Additional transmitters cost $125.
The Pro-Tracker is available now.
