Homemade .45 ACP Shoots Better than A Glock!

in Authors, S.H. Blannelberry

Is ‘Royal Nonesuch’ the next John Mosses Browning?

LOL.  I’ll let you be the judge of that.  But the young tuber has created his very own handgun, the RN45, a break-action single shot pistol chambered in .45 ACP.

Assembled from a rifled barrel purchased on eBay for $20, a paintball lower and various other materials, the RN45 is surprisingly accurate.  The kid was able to consistently hit steel from 7 yards out (21 feet, the distance one is required to hit a target to pass the CCW course in my home state of KY. One needs to land 11 outta 20 shots on the target, a random FYI).

Moving out to approx. 40 yards, Royal Nonesuch was able to make it ring a few times despite the fact that his sights are not perfectly fitted.

“It’s still probably more accurate than Glock,” he joked.  Well, I think he’s joking.  But maybe he’s right?  LOL.

Cue the Glock fanboys to start chiming in… “My G43 is waaay better than that stupid piece of junk!” My G21 would eat that for breakfast.”  “Don’t hate on Glock!  Arrrr, arrrrr!”

Regardless of all the comments already made, Ebay has strict policies on firearms and parts. What is odd is that you cannot sell a barrel that is threaded at the muzzle, but apparently you can buy a complete upper kit for a Glock. I’m sure if the wokes at epay see this story, they will probably ban the rest too. While they may be anti-firearm judging from what they do allow, I think it may be to cover their butts to not allow the sale of anything that is banned in any state, so mags bigger than 10 rounds are banned, as are ‘assault weapons’ kits or parts, because they don’t want to get in a legal battle of someone in FLA selling legal in FLA parts but outlawed in CA parts to someone in CA.

  • Jay November 9, 2018, 4:15 am

Of course, You tube has pulled the video. I’m surprised he ever got such uploaded there to begin with, by the sound of it.
Of course, all the anti Glock slandering is not to be unexpected. Bigotry is everywhere after all. You know, it’s funny. After all, Glocks ARE mostly black. Black, haters, hmmm. Maybe there is something there after all…

By the way. Who here has a gun that held up for 365,000 rounds? Chuck Taylor has. It has taken him 30 years to get there but hey. It’s a Glock. (See his Sept 2017 article about that.)

  • Larry October 23, 2017, 10:13 am

    Your caps lock is on.

  • xLoCxRambo February 27, 2017, 11:36 am

Jesus Christ people need to calm down and take a joke and come to terms that Glock really isn’t that great unless you heavily modify it to make it a pro-circuit gun. NO gun is perfect!!!

  • Mike September 29, 2016, 4:00 pm

Just because some idiot kid built a zipgun I don’t think that qualifies him as a future John Browning. Mr Browning hand built and designed everything he made ,not buying from a hardware store and screwing together. That being said if I was a criminal and couldn’t legally buy a gun this would work great especially if you put some side sights and a extendo magazine on it

  • ejharb September 26, 2016, 3:56 pm

anybody wants to trade me a non stolen glock for one of these reply to this message.ill even toss in a box of tula steel ammo
ill toss in a extra box of tula for a glock 30 sf my fave

  • PHYLLIS RUIZ September 20, 2016, 1:38 am

PERHAPS THIS YOUNG MAN NEEDS PSYCHIATRIC AID IF HE THINKS HIS GUN IS MORE ACCURATE THAN GLOCK.

  • Frank September 19, 2016, 5:19 pm

    Not understanding the anti-Glock reference?
The kid built something cool, why throw in the negativity?
For reference I own several Glock and non Glock 45,s

  • Daniel Braatz September 18, 2016, 5:59 pm

Pretty cool. Though, in my opinion, he spent too much time with his finger inside the trigger guard; with the barrel pointed in a different direction than the target.

  • Larry September 18, 2016, 11:49 am

Big deal, anything shoots better than a Glock.

  • DR September 18, 2016, 10:34 am

Haters are gonna hate, but anything new or different in firearms is interesting. However, the kid would have a lot more credibility if he kept his finger off the trigger while cocking the gun and waving the barrel around.

  • Josh September 18, 2016, 1:29 am

Another silly assed story from Guns America.

Must have been a really slow day there with no real story lines.

Folks have made single shot guns from raw materials since gunpowder was invented, so what is the big deal about this story? Did the kid make all of the components himself? As proven by the kid, any yahoo can put pre-made parts together and get it to work one shot at a time.

OK, geniuses, compute how long it would take to fire this kid’s gun for a 5,000 round torture test? Anyone wanna bet whether this dinky single-shot would last 5,000 rounds?

As for 1911 lovers, until CNC mills came into use for making the majority of 1911s, your selective memory now excludes how the majority of 1911s came from the factories as jam-a-matics or “couldn’t hit the side of a barndoor from 3 feet” quality that required 19 of every 20 new 1911s to be immediately sent to gunsmiths all around the country. My point is every gun made will have some of its production runs fail for variious reasons. If you want fail proof reliability, then those guns would cost at least $15K a piece. It ain’t gonna happen.

BTW, where in YouTube is the latest 5,000, 10,000, 15,000. amd 20,000 shot torture tests for any 1911?

    • Jay November 9, 2018, 4:07 am

Holding up 5,000 rounds? You must be joking. Why not talk about SERIOUS numbers? Anybody here ever heard of Chuck Taylor? I has been running a live fire torture test on one Glock 17 for the last 30 years. Round count? 5,000? Nah. He went double that before he condescended to clean it. So 50,000 rounds? Nope, keep counting. How about 150,000 rounds. You gotta be joking. Yep! His Glock (and anybody knows Chuck Taylor knows he is a most dedicated 1911 man.) has gone double that. 300,000 rounds?! (Still cleaning every 10,000 rounds whether it needed it or not,)That would be incredible if he had stopped there. But, he didn’t.
At last report, an article he wrote in Sept 2017, his Glock, one pistol, NOT a series of them, was at 365,000 rounds- and still counting. Has that that gone that long w/out failures? well…, no. not quite. NO machine could continue to function after so much abuse, even a Glock. But, here’s Chuck’s comments…
(quote)”Finally, at around 325,000 rounds, the trigger pin broke, causing a stoppage. It was quickly replaced and shooting resumed. Then, after another hundred rounds, the firing pin tail chipped, but the gun continued to function. The trigger pull weight changed, however, indicating that something had happened. So the gun was once again field-stripped and examined, disclosing the chipped part. Since then, no further failures have been experienced.” (end quote)
So unless and until your favorite gun can top this (and a Glock defends my life and my family’s but it still isn’t my “favorite” gun), I don’t want to here your nonsense!

  • Greg Velders September 17, 2016, 2:22 pm

Dont hate Glock BUT Boy’s look at the price cost difference ?? this thing cost less than your darn Mag !!

  • Don Richardson September 17, 2016, 1:35 pm

I hope he checked and obeyed all the ATF regulations. Otherwise he may get a visitor from the government to escort him to the cell that should be Hillary’s.

    • ejharb September 26, 2016, 4:00 pm

no a crime to build a zipgun in most places in flyover.wouldnt try it in nyc lol
he might be sketchy on age limits for handguns idk

  • mike September 17, 2016, 11:58 am

I was good until he used operators and operate in the same sentence.

  • Andy September 17, 2016, 10:01 am

I was gonna stand up for the Glocks and how my G26 can consistently hit a 1-inch pasters at that distance until I saw how ridiculously easy the KY CCW shooting requirements are. #WEAK
This is only marginally more inventive than Clockboy transferring a WalMart clock from its housing to a briefcase.

  • Jack September 17, 2016, 7:25 am

Creative, enterprising, and fun. Lets drop the hypocracy fellas, we’ve all slung a little lead to the four winds.

    • Daniel Braatz September 18, 2016, 6:04 pm

Yeah, we have. Easy to point out flaws watching a video. No one is safe 100% of the time. Kid needs more experience:
Good judgement comes from experience. Experience often comes from bad judgment

      • ejharb September 26, 2016, 4:02 pm

lets hope he survives and keeps his nose clean so he can join us old guncranks someday

  • Lui Pestana September 17, 2016, 2:07 am

Not saying much, glocks are pieces of crap anyway. I carry one for a living, my companies choice not mine, I should know.

    • Sss September 17, 2016, 9:35 pm

Carrying and shooting are two different things. Practice, practice and practice! Your life depends on it. Glocks are good guns. They deserve to be shot often like any carry gun.

  • Lar45 September 17, 2016, 1:17 am

Have any of you guys seen John Linebaugh’s first home built single shot pistol? It was a muzzle loader that used a butterknife blade as the spring to pop the caps. Fast forward a couple decades and now he is one of the top pistol smiths in the world.
I agree that someone should take the time to teach him some gun safety. Teach him how to run a lathe and mill and see if his designs get a little better.
    Just my .02

  • Boomer September 16, 2016, 11:39 pm

I haven\’t ranted for a while but I\’m tired of the self ritieous trolls. I\’m due.
Um, all the trolls that want to knock this kid because he doesn\’t speak like a \”professional? Get over it and quit knocking someone who\’s doing it instead of just critiquing everyone else (think film critic who cant act their way out of a paper bag)..
As for the safety bit, he knows exactly where that bullet is going. Into the two more miles of empty property. And, he has quite a bit of supervision when building and is quite shop savy. Yes, he\’s a kid and does \”kid stuff\” but he doesn\’t stare down the barrel of a loaded weapon to see if he can see the bullet and, yes, he may ruin a sweater or two but, as I say, he knows where the thing is pointed. And, from the earlier stuff to now, he\’s come a long way and isn\’t so… \”naive…\” shall we say, about what he\’s doing. I know his family has reined him in some and helps with the machining and heavy engineering work and testing. He doesn\’t come by all this stuff in the garage while mommy and daddy are at the office.
And yup, ATF can say nothing about building your own firearm as long as it isn\’t fully automatic, SBR, etc. And, ATF, you will never take all the guns.
So, blast away at me, I don\’t care… if you don\’t like the kid\’s channel, shut up and move on. Taking cheap-shots at him from the sideline does no one any good, not him or me or you and only shows your own personal frustrations with life.
    Sing it wit\’ me, now… \”Don\’t worry…. BEEEE happy!\”

  • beefeatervegan September 16, 2016, 11:31 pm

Wow, a homemade gun jerry rigged by a kid. What could possibly go wrong with that? We should all just give up on those Glocks with thousands of hours of research, design, and engineering by highly trained professionals and get us a contraption just like some kid on youtube. Oh boy!

  • Mikial September 16, 2016, 8:32 pm

What is it with everyone always trying to pick a fight with Glock owners? Don’t people have better things to do?

As for the gun . . . great job. Why shouldn’t some smart person with good motor skills build a decent homemade gun? The Pashtu have been doing it for centuries.

  • Blasted Cap September 16, 2016, 7:55 pm

I’m guessing he won’t be invited to the White House to demonstrate it for the President.

    • ejharb September 26, 2016, 4:07 pm

ah the good olde days when honest abe was feverishly looking for a assault rifle so his blue bellies could pile up the johnny rebs
ripley should be revered by all southerners if not for his resistance of anything not muzzle loaded and single shot there would be no southerners

  • Scrounger1911 September 16, 2016, 4:40 pm

Perhaps instead of complaining about his lack of safety, this community could commend him on his ingenuity and tutor him on proper safety when using firearms. We need to be positive role models. Nurture and give guidance instead of complaining. That is the only way to defeat the gun grabbing nannies!

  • Manly Tuetonic Operator September 16, 2016, 3:17 pm

Just wanted to leave a comment to balance out the haters. Watch this guy’s other videos. He is creative and entertaining. Sure he is doing a few things that many of us learned not to do a long time ago, but I don’t see any of you know-it-alls taking the time to fabricate projects such as these, test, set up and record, edit, and post his results. More power to him and looking forward to seeing more from him.

    • Roger F September 16, 2016, 3:06 pm

Well said, Manly. I can never figure out these \”hater\” people but they are totally incapable of saying anything good about anything or anyone. The only pleasure I get out of reading their venomous remarks is knowing that their lives must be a living hell with no friends and no family that cares if they take another breath. And when they die their lonely death, the only ones there are the two guys to dig the hole.

    • mesaman September 16, 2016, 3:11 pm

Your comment does not “balance” the comments of the haters, in any sense of the word. But if it makes you feel more “manly” that’s what we all wanted to have you do.

    • Mikial September 16, 2016, 8:33 pm

      Agreed. Well said.

  • JJ September 16, 2016, 12:48 pm

Wow. Trashiest article I’ve read in awhile. “LOL”? Did a 12 year old write this?

    • Mikial September 16, 2016, 8:35 pm

So, how many articles about guns you successfully built in your garage have you written lately?

  • Jim September 16, 2016, 12:34 pm

While this kid does not practice range safety he is inventive and will be around in the firearms industry for a long time, provided of course he doesn’t shoot himself or someone else or get locked up by ATF for something silly.

    • Roger F September 16, 2016, 2:18 pm

I had no clue I could build one of the finest firearms in the world with a few parts from Home Depot. I\’m really tempted to change my name to Majestic NotSoMuch and invent something cool like that. Perhaps a pistol that can also vacuum the carpet. Might call it the GlockSucker. Catchy name…might sell.

      • Daniel September 18, 2016, 8:53 am

        Or perhaps The SuckingGlock

  • Roscoe September 16, 2016, 12:29 pm

It’s been a while since I’ve checked, but at one time the Feds appreciated an application asking for permission to construct a home made firearm. Sometimes they were said to even issue a serial number that better damn well be place somewhere on the hmfa that could not be easily removed.

    • SammColt45 September 16, 2016, 1:28 pm

As long as the home made firearm is not an NFA class weapon, any gun that is otherwise legal to own can be made by the owner for his own use. It can never be sold or transferred, but it is totally legal to manufacture your own gun, which is why the 80% lowers are so popular these days.

      • Paul September 17, 2016, 2:10 pm

Actually, it CAN be sold or transferred without an ATF license. One cannot engage in the BUSINESS of selling firearms that one makes without a manufacturer’s license. The ATF gets to decide when you are “doing business”, but the current standard they are using is “more than one firearm in 6 months”. It’s not a an “official rule”, but it is the current guideline. The point is, quit with effing “sky is falling” every time someone comes up with a new idea, and quit talking shit about stuff you KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

      • Vince Brennan September 17, 2016, 10:57 pm

Actually there is no requirement for a serial number. I just did the research based on having completed two 80% 10/22 receivers. The BATFE requirement for serial numbers is for “licensed manufacturers and importers” there is NO requirement for a serial number on a firearm you build for your own use.

  • jeff September 16, 2016, 12:24 pm

The same typical style of zip gun in the 50s and 60s but better make.

  • Brax September 16, 2016, 11:36 am

This is cool, but the off the cuff text speak style writing turns me off of this :/

    • Roger September 16, 2016, 2:31 pm

Whatcha mean \”off da cuff text speak\”? When you got a name like Royal Nonsense, who\’d expect much from your vocabulary or diction?

  • JoshO September 16, 2016, 11:19 am

“We’ll shoot this pond and see what kind of splash it makes…as the bullet is deflected and flies into the next county”.

Ingenuitive, but this kid needs to be safer. Of course, the ATF will probably come for him before he has a chance to shoot himself or somebody else.

  • Calisdad September 16, 2016, 10:54 am

I watched all of Royal Nonesuch’s videos that I can bear. He’s not safe- just safe enough so far (read: lucky).
While I admire his creativity, encouraging others to engage in this insanity is reckless.
One thing for sure- His demise will be on Youtube for all to see.

BTW- your title is misleading. You should show more respect to your followers.

  • R September 16, 2016, 10:45 am

Ever hear of gun safety- up and down range? This kid is a clear demonstration of why shooting accidents happen. Regardless of your surroundings, you ALWAYS practice proper safety. This kid is a moron.

    • N September 16, 2016, 11:01 am

WRONG R, YOU are the MORON! This kid’s a GENIUS and he JUST PROVED BEYOND A SHADOW OF A DOUBT WHY NO GUN CONTROL CAN EVER WORK! You FOOL! INSTEAD of PLAYING JUNIOR G-MAN from your livingroom, YOU should be out there spreading this ALL over like EVERYONE ELSE SHOULD BE!!!!

    • N September 16, 2016, 11:14 am

And BY THE WAY RRRRRRRRR, When the SHIT DOES hit the fan, NOTICE I said WHEN not IF and also NOTICE I said DOES not MIGHT, THIS KID HAS A PLACE ON MY TEAM ANYTIME HE WANTS ONE!!! I will fight right NEXT to him! I’ll just make SURE there is a BIG TREE between us!

      • Robert September 16, 2016, 12:30 pm

IF SHTF, you and Elmer Fud would be easy picking. No training, single shot, and your moronic attitude …lol a professional could snuff you clowns and never break a sweat. Now , I think your mom is calling for school, Don’t miss the bus

        • JJ September 16, 2016, 12:50 pm

          Haha, agreed

YOU and YOUR KIND are the REASON the OTHER SIDE is WINNING you CLUELESS IDIOT! That’s for you TOO Haha, agreed JJ you FOLLOW THE CROWD NUMBSKULL!

    • Roscoe September 16, 2016, 12:33 pm

What is “proper” safety? Knowing your target and what’s behind it? If the kid knows that there is an empty cow pasture or hayfield behind the target and he lives miles from any neighbor, as I did growing up . . . well, ‘nuf said.

  • Dude September 16, 2016, 10:42 am

“…’cause that’s the distance most operators operate at.” LOOOL! Creative young man, using his mind and imagination, and having a little fun with it all. Better than eating Hotpockets in his mom’s basement in front of an XBox. Can’t believe the haters here on Guns America. Geez!…

  • Edr9x23super September 16, 2016, 9:30 am

At least this kid is building and creating things with his own two hands instead of becoming one with an Xbox console 24/7/365. I give him tons of credit for that!

    You go, Kid!

    • Mr. Biggs September 16, 2016, 8:44 am

Amen to that… building things, hunting and just playing not only builds physical dexterity but it also fosters creativity and self-esteem. No wonder these kids today want Hillary or Bernie to pay for everything… they never learned to find creative solutions to problems and work for it!

      • GunFlint1 September 16, 2016, 9:08 am

What do you suppose the ATF/FBI & the Democrats said when they seen that video ??

        • KCshooter September 16, 2016, 9:24 am

They won’t say a thing, as he has done nothing against the law.

        • Andrew September 16, 2016, 9:45 am

          What can they say?
If it has a rifled barrel, and he built it for himself, then it’s legal.

He would only “need” a license if planning to sell them.

    • jay September 17, 2016, 2:56 am

yaa gotta give him that ,better check atf regs before you try homebuilding though

  • Adam Jeppson September 16, 2016, 9:27 am

OUTSTANDING! Here’s a kid who’s got, and is using his brain! The fact that his firearm is not only working but accurate made me laugh out loud with delight. Expect great things from this kid.

  • Robert September 16, 2016, 9:21 am

Are you all actually attempting to sound knowledgable on actual firearms????? By all means let little man have some fun and y’all STFU, If you don’t use one forms living your opinion means shit!!!!!!!!!

    • Adam Jeppson September 16, 2016, 9:31 am

Relax man, you’re wound a little tight. Breathe in and out.

  • tech September 16, 2016, 8:43 am

Ive been following royal nonsuch for a few years. He’s been dabbling with other designs like a slamfire shotgun, and testing various custom loads like .50cal 12ga rounds. Reminds me of things i was designing at his age. He has drive and love of it and i commend him for it. I hope he remains safe and doesnt let curiosity to cross over the legal line ever get the better of him. Glad to see GA appreciates his work and that he is getting this kind of attention. We need more young people like this to have this passion to ensure firearms design into the decades to come.

  • Joh September 16, 2016, 7:45 am

I am highly impressed by this video. Instead of slinging rounds on homemade guns on Fallout 4, this young man is doing it for real. This dude sets a good example for bored young people everywhere.

And anyone who gets hung up on his Glock comment has insecurities that the internet can’t solve, only exacerbate!

    • Armscorp survivor September 17, 2016, 12:00 am

Wow! Mark Turdsack! I normally wouldn’t leave a comment but I am honestly amazed at most of these comments I have read… Especially the one above! I mean, man if you think armscorp is superior to anything, even doggie waste, you’ve got some SERIOUS ISSUES!!! I MEAN SERIOUS ISSUES!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love all of my 1911’s, even my “what started out as an armscrap” and I’m really not a fan of glock, but I purchased my “junkcorp” brand new kept it clean and well oiled, never fired anything but factory ammo through it and one day, after having the hunk of recycled car fenders and old battleships (because the phillipines oustanding steal industry is just booming)for about 15 months, I fired a whole mag and after the last shot was fired, the slide was froze up… I took it to a licensed gunsmith buddy and what was found was surprisingly horrifing! Barrel expanded and cracked, frame bent! I feel very lucky after seeing the damage that the piece of crap held together and didn’t come apart in my face/hand! Obviously a STEAL 1911 is gonna hold together better than a PLASTIC glock!! And as for the mud, 1911’s were designed as a BATTLEFRONT WEAPON with loose tolerances for these exact reasons! I only have two questions for you!
      1) How often do you practice trying to bite your own ear?
2)Does it hurt to be that retarded and then exploit it on here as if you’re some sort of “YouTube University Professor” that knows all because you’ve seen it on the line?

  • fgdragoneye1 September 16, 2016, 7:24 am

So a guy makes a single shot pistol and claims it shoots better than a Glock?!?! I am not in any way a Glock fan but I will say this, hahahahahahahahahhahahhahahhahahahahahabcaipshbjhhasbshjhbv.

Since when does a guy get knocked for giving a kid a little respect for being creative? Without kids like this We wouldnt be enjoying most the boy toys We have today! I am willing to bet half the people badmouthing the author or Royal nonesuch know how a gun funnctions beyond pulling the slide off and barrel outta their Glock? I mean lets be honest if the Govt has their way someday making your own gun may be only way to have one. As long as safety is being observed I hope Royal nonesuch keeps up his hobby and He is more likely to own a company like Glock someday than any of us replying are. Seeing this just reminds me how much I love Americas freedoms and We should all be cheering the kid on after all how many articles can we read on polymer pistols?

Considering the famed Mark Serbu has taken this young Whipper Snapper under his wing, it looks like he could end up being a future intellect! Not many younglings understand ir want to design guns, so this could be fortuitous.

    Nice

  • fritz bousigschouer September 16, 2016, 7:15 am

real nonsense, dangerous as well, his videos as junk as his “guns”. one day one blow up in his face.

It’s sad that we get excited over a zip gun. If he were in prison it might be impressive, but comparing him to JMB is a little insulting. Here is a kid who should put his curiosity more into lathes and mills and less into YouTube.

  • Scott Phillips September 16, 2016, 6:58 am

The lad does some silly things and has an unnatural affection for crap hardware but his videos are interesting and often funny.

  • Chad September 16, 2016, 6:58 am

Well it certainly looks better then any Glock I’ve ever seen.

  • HoldingIII September 16, 2016, 6:45 am

    !!CLICKBAIT!!

  • mr bad example September 16, 2016, 6:29 am

he has made a fully auto grease gun recently.

    • Fred Gasparino September 16, 2016, 9:50 am

If he really did such a thing, that would be illegal, unfortunately.

  • Dewey September 12, 2016, 10:03 pm

So now you’re getting all excited about Viet Cong-level “gunsmithing”? Maybe he could team up with Paul Helinski so they can make guns from scrap material , to survive the apocalypse. Barrels falling off of Glocks? I doubt it.

    • Mike_Hunt September 16, 2016, 4:44 am

      No they just blow up

    • KCshooter September 16, 2016, 6:22 am

I suppose you could do better? (that’s rhetorical. you can’t.)
Yep. Barrels fell off Glocks. Which is why they were recalled. Strike 2.

So I’m wondering how long it will be before ATF or one of the other notorious acronyms will be busting down his door…..for not really any reason whatsoever. But other than that, looks like he has a promising career in engineering. Well Done!

    • jb76 September 16, 2016, 3:39 am

Private manufacturing of firearms is totally legal.as long as he doesn’t sell it or make it automatic.

  • Mike September 11, 2016, 8:03 am

Well it does look a little better than a Glock, and the barrel didn’t fall off like the recent police issue Glocks, so who is to say it isn’t better than a Glock?

    • James M September 11, 2016, 6:09 pm

Even looks better than a glock. Might finally be a “real” pistol for glock fan boys to enjoy! Rolmao!
