A homeowner shot at an intruder earlier this week when he tried to force entry into her home.

According to CBS News, the woman told police that she had seen the intruder in the backyard approaching the house, so she called 911.

Police reported to the scene around 9:30 p.m. to find that shots had been fired.

The intruder had begun banging on her doors and varied sources say he tried to enter the home through either a window or backdoor.

ABC7 reported that the woman and her husband had heard the intruder yelling from outside. He claimed to be injured and was insisting he be let inside.

Fearing for her life, police say the homeowner grabbed a shotgun and prepared to defend herself.

Defense From Home Intruder

According to Fox11, the homeowner shouted at the intruder to leave. He would not.

When it appeared that the intruder was reaching for a weapon in his pocket, the homeowner fired her gun.

Police say the intruder, who was identified in his mid-30s, was shot in the head. He was taken to a hospital and is listed in critical condition but is stable.

Intruders Are Common In Hollywood

Various news networks interviewed the neighbors the next day. Some said that this was an isolated incident.

“I just equate it to a random incident,” William Farrell, one neighbor told ABC7. “It’s always been a really safe neighborhood.”

Others had to disagree.

“People do have guns,” Joni Berby said. “For protection. We chase people away all the time.”

CBS discovered that the neighborhood regularly deals with home invasions and break-ins.

“You have a defense for yourself if an intruder, someone who isn’t your family, enters your home with force,” A Hollywood attorney told NBC4.

“If they are entering in an aggressive manner, then the law is gonna be on your side.”

The homeowner was detained by police for a short while during questioning but has since returned home. She has not been arrested, and police have not released any information on charges against the intruder.

Since this happened in the Republic Of Kalifornistan, I’m surprised the homeowner wasn’t charged with attempted murder. So she shot him in the head with a shotgun and he survived? Sounds like she almost missed, or was loaded with bird-shot. May I suggest switching to buckshot and practicing with a center-mass hold?
