Check Out the GuardianGrip: A Retractable Finger Extension for Your Compact Revolver

Most of us could use an extra inch… on the handle of our compact revolver. The problem with adding another inch, however, is that the wheel gun no longer becomes as concealable or carry friendly as it once was.

But what if I were to tell you that there was a way to add an extra inch without making the handle any bigger?  That’s impossible!  Right?  Wrong.

Enter the Pachmayr GuardianGrip, a polymer revolver handle with a spring-loaded retractable finger extension.  Your handle goes from a two-finger grip to a three-finger grip with a push of a button!

Features

  • Carries like a compact, shoots like a full-size grip
  • Convert from a two finger grip to a three finger grip with the press of a button
  • Contoured for use with Speedloaders
  • Impervious to moisture, weather or chemicals
  • Open backstrap design with checkered grip panels
  • MSRP: $49.98

“The GuardianGrip is the answer for every person that carries concealed yet feels a compact grip does not give them the control they need, whether it is during target shooting or if an actual self-defense scenario arose,” Trevor Mullen, VP of Global Marketing and Business Development for Lyman Products, said in a press release.

“The GuardianGrip adds that level of confidence for the owner of a compact conceal firearm, just by providing them with a positive full-size grip,” Mullen added.

Pretty cool!  Before I render judgment though, I’d like to see how it operates and get a feel for how sturdy the extension is when it’s fully deployed.  (I didn’t see any videos posted yet on the website.  The product just went live when I started writing this.)  I’m also curious if you can practice dropping the extension while drawing from concealment and how well that would work when under duress.

This is a product that we’ll have to get in for review. If it’s as neat as it sounds, it might be a little accessory that ends up having a big impact on the way we carry concealed.

The GuardianGrip is now available for J-frame revolvers. MSRP: $49.98.

I learned a long time ago from Louis Awerbuck that to control a weapon, the little finger on the grip is useless and actually can lead to reduced accuracy due to what is known as “milking” the grip. Control of a handgun resides with the use of the thumb and middle finger. The ring finger is icing on the cake. Louis knew his stuff.

If this grip were to position the hand higher up on the frame, then they’d be on to something, much like Deacon Deason achieved with his Bear Hug Grips. Those things are amazing at controlling recoil on an Airweight J-Frame revolver.

Two greats who really knew a lot about shooting. RIP gents. You made shooting a lot more of a fun and rewarding experience.
