Persons under the age of 18 will no longer be allowed to view gun accessory ads on Facebook, the social networking site announced this week.

Starting June 21, any ad that promotes products like “gun cases and paint, holsters and belt accessories, and gun-mounted flashlights and scopes” will be restricted to audiences 18 years and up.

This latest announcement follows Facebook’s 2016 decision to ban private gun sales on all of its platforms. Anti-gunners are hailing it as another victory in the crusade to censor gun content.

“I’m encouraged to see Facebook make yet another policy change that encourages and promotes gun safety on its platforms,” said Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, in a press release.

“This is an important step and one more signal that American companies are ready and willing to stand on the right side of history,” she continued. “Tech giants like Facebook play an important role in the fight for a safer nation and we’re grateful that its leaders are once again stepping up to the plate.”

Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation had a different take.

“This has nothing to do with safety,” Gottlieb told GunsAmerica via email.  “No minor uses flashlights or a gun case to cause harm. In fact a gun case is a safety device. This is just another attempt to demonize anything to do with firearms. The gun haters have reached a new low.”

How is Facebook going to enforce this? How do they know how old anyone is? No one has to provide any proof of age to get on Facebook. I have signed up for over a dozen accounts, never had to prove anything. I at one time started a porn account on Facebook just to see what might happen. A girls crotch is okay to see but a gun is not????

Canceling account does nothing. You are a drop in the bucket. They can be harassed and cost them money.

This site censors comments all the time, why such a big deal?

I’m not from the generation of self absorbed assholes who need these social media platforms to get through the daily lives.

Just another platform for mentally deficient liberals to spew their hate, no thanks.

I have censored Facebook by terminating my account with them and their associated companies such as PayPal, etc. for releasing my personal data to third parties without my explicit permission.

…….Then,…. Minors 18 or less should NOT have access to Facebook!!,….

  • Steve June 22, 2018, 4:17 pm

From my prospective, anyone under 18 should NOT be on FB to begin with!! That way FB’s new policy would be moot.

IMO, FB is the newest illicit drug infecting all of our society. And our kids should be outside playing or involved with sports (learnig to safely handle firearms) or (here’s a novel idea) socializing with their peers face-to-face instead of FB, Instagram, twitter… take your pick of ridiculous social app.

    Just MO…

I guess the ‘Guns and Ammo’ mag at the book store will have to be put in the same covered place as Playboy and Penthouse now.

Some fail to understand the spirit and soul of The American.
I can’t speak for other nationalities but don’t we as a whole resist bullying and control? The volstead act or better known as prohibition in the 1920’s is a lesson lost on the control freak.
Whether they believe their mighty and majestic efforts are based on good intentions or they are waltzing on the “forward” or “progressive” trail is not at issue. They want to be noticed and be relevant/important regardless their complete lack of logic.
I shake my head at their ignorance.

My teenage nephew lists his age as 28 on his FB site…so much for stopping him from buying a flashlight

Boycott Facebook & other socialist media websites, shut them all down.

Slowly guns are being removed from acceptability, magazines and publications showing guns, removed from store book racks, removed from facebook, removed from you-tube, soon even to mention a gun in conversation will be unacceptable and possibly punishable.

Gun ownership will become so demonized we will be viewed as a menace to society and need to be eradicated. Guess I’ll line up for my tattoo and head on over to the concentration camp.

I guess the ‘Keep Honking, I’m Reloading’ sticker on my vehicle might send some hand wringing, bleeding heart, off the road, and I’ll get sued for visual implied threat. Hope there’s a tree in the way.
