Detroit Police Officer Shoots Partner After Missing Dog

in Uncategorized

A Detroit Police officer was wounded on Sunday after his partner accidentally shot him in the leg.

The officer who pulled the trigger was attempting to shoot a dog.

“The dog charged at the officers, the officers fearing for their safety, one officer fired one round at the dog. The round didn’t strike the dog, it struck his partner in the lower right calf,” Police Commander Brian Harris told ABC 7 Detroit.

The wounded officer was listed in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the niece of the dog’s owner, a woman by the name of Tiara, is contesting the officers’ retelling of the incident.

Tiara contends the dog never posed a threat to the LEOs.

“We let the dog out to use the bathroom from the side door,” said Tiara. “The police were walking towards this door, the dog comes up, she’s protecting her area. So she just came out and she barked, she didn’t jump on them, she didn’t lunge and he was just going crazy with the gun.”

“I thought he was gonna shoot me because he was swinging the gun all over the place. I almost had a heart attack because she’s not aggressive, she doesn’t even have teeth, she’s old,” Tiara explained.

The dog’s owner was given two citations for “harboring a vicious animal in the city limits of Detroit,” per ABC 7 Detroit. The owner said she plans on fighting the citations in court.

Both parties were at fault. Dogs should be controlled. I have two dogs in my fenced in front and back yard. Plenty of room for them to play. No one should enter my gate without permission. This dog was running loose in an unfenced area. It was not under control of the owner. If he was coming at the officer, he had every right to defend himself. How he should defend himself may be up for debate, but I’m not criticizing him for shooting at the dog.
Now the cops. What a fool this guy was for shooting his partner in the leg. Don’t they teach gun safety at the academy? One guy remarked he must have gone to the Alec Baldwin school of gun safety. I agree. He’s an idiot who should not be allowed to carry a firearm.

People act like a dog bite is the same as a cobra or rattlesnake bite. Let the pooch try to get a nip, then plug it at point blank range if it proves to really be dangerous. (Rabies and lymphangitis hypochondriacs, reply with 1000 words or more.)

Sorry to break it to you, but Now most police do the job for the paycheck, being able to legally speed, bully folks, and shoot animals for the fun of it. Most cops are NOT honorable like last century

Don’t rail against cops because of one idiot! Folks like you need to get the hell out of the way and let cops do their job.

    • jim September 23, 2022, 1:33 pm

Hate to tell you…it is not “one idiot”. There are a whole bunch of them out there, as the best are retiring/quitting. It is now common for police practice to shoot any dog that “interferes” in any way with the duties of an officer. For many cops, that includes barking, snarling, or getting in between the owner and the officer.

Add that to the fact that Detroit has some of the lowest firearms qualification scores in the nation, and you have a recipe for exactly what happened, and will likely happen again.

There’s more than one idiot out there, look at the dumb son of a bitch that left the cop vehicle with a suspect inside parked on a railroad crossing in Platteville, Colorado. A train plows into the vehicle, critically injuring the suspect while all the cops are standing there with their thumbs in their asses looking stupid. You don’t ever park a vehicle on a railroad crossing!

Law Enforcement freely and eagerly shoots peoples dogs and all they need to say is the dog was a threat when in reality they will deem the dog a threat because it barked at them and that’s all they need to kill your family pet when most the dogs killed aren’t, they’re just doing what is natural for dogs to do. It’s sickening because there is repercussions for these pet killing LEO’s. No agencies keep data on the number of pets killed yearly by trigger happy cops. Granted there have been incidents where the dog in question is aggressive and necessary action needs to be taken but just because a dog barks at a LEO is not and does not give justification to kill someone’s family pet. The cops that do shoot dogs when the dogs are not a threat should be held accountable. My dog is part of my family so to me I consider it murder when cops unjustly shoot dogs. If you were to shoot a police K9 you will be charged with murdering a police officer so just the same if a cop unjustly shoots a family’s dog then they should be charged with murder.

  • SuperG September 21, 2022, 8:58 am

She may be right, since the cop didn’t exercise very good judgment with his first shot.
