Congresswoman Introduces Bill: $100 Gun Tax, RFID Chips, National Stolen Gun Registry

Wow, this bill is the dumbest thing I’ve read all week!  Actually, it may be the dumbest thing I’ve read all month!

Congresswoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) introduced legislation Monday into the U.S. House of Representatives that would mandate reporting for lost or stolen firearms, create a national database for those missing guns, require every gun sold to be equipped with “passive identification capability” and impose a $100 gun tax for firearm sales.

What is she smoking? Apparently, it’s good stuff because she is downright delusional. But as crazy as she is, I suppose I should commend her for her transparency. That is to say, she openly admits that she wants to chill the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners and kill commerce within the gun community.

“If making guns more expensive means fewer end up in commerce, I’m happy with that result,” Velázquez said in a press release. “However, if guns are going to be sold, then those purchasing and selling them should pay for programs that can reduce the incidence of gun violence in our local communities.”

By the same token, maybe we ought to start taxing free speech and use the proceeds to fund programs that teach the Constitution to idiotic lawmakers?  Sound reasonable?

Velázquez’s bill, H. R. 3830, is seriously dumb. Consequently, we can expect it to die a quick death in the House. That said, it’s still worth looking at to get a sense of just how far off the rocker Dems have gotten on gun control.  That’s correct, she’s not the only Democrat to support the bill, for the full list click here.

As we’ve seen in places like Seattle and Los Angeles, taxes on guns and ammunition really have one purpose: to make gun ownership a cost prohibitive right. Velázquez’s undoubtedly knows this, that’s why she said, to repeat, “If making guns more expensive means fewer end up in commerce, I’m happy with that result.” In other words, I’m happy when fewer folks can afford to exercise their Constitutional rights!

The mandatory reporting for lost and stolen guns is another way to punish gun owners. Under the letter of the bill, if one does not report a firearm lost or stolen within 48 hours that individual may face a $10,000 fine. Moreover, if one sells a firearm that does not have a “passive identification capability,” which I’m assuming is like an RFID chip in the firearm, one must pay $1,000 fine per firearm sold.

The national database of lost and stolen firearms is just another way to monitor gun owners, under the guise of “crime-fighting” and “public safety.” Yes, all levels of law enforcement should pursue and prosecute gun thieves, however, it ought not to come at the expense of the privacy rights of the individual gun owner.

“Too many New Yorkers have lost their lives due to the ‘Iron Pipeline’ that illegally funnels guns from southern states into our City,” Velázquez said. “By better harnessing technology, requiring gun owners to report missing firearms and establishing a national database for lost guns, we can assist law enforcement and encourage owners to be more responsible in safeguarding their weapons.”

As I said, this bill is most likely dead in the water. But it’s a prime example of the aspirational goals of the anti-gunners in Congress who want nothing more than to flush our right to keep and bear arms down the toilet.

I can no longer handle stupidity from Congress and from some pro gun people. Take your words liberal and democrat and shove them where the sun don’t shine. To say it is all democrats trying to take your guns away or all liberals just proves you don’t need a gun in your hands. If you can not get away from name calling and not talk critically about the issues in front of us just shows maybe you should have paid more attention in school a little longer than the 5th grade. I don’t care which side of the isle your on, vitriol is going to get us no where and we will end up losing our rights. At the same time if we don’t start digging into what is triggering some of this stuff it won’t matter because the typical American sheeple would rather trade safety for freedom. Its time to start using our brains instead of our 5th grade self in conversations.

Sincerely your local gun toting liberal democrat who despises his taxes.

More of the NY liberal tripe. An attempt to tax gun owners out of owner rights.

Good luck with that. The good guys have the House, Senate and White House.

    Guns are not the problem.

It is apparent to me that this law would in fact only affect the poor and minorities.
Rich people will always find a way to get what they want and expense won’t stop them.
Organizations like Guns America and the NRA are there to protect everyone’s right to defend themselves.
Again and again the poor and minorities continue to vote for the very same people that are making them slaves to the system.

      “Luke 22:36
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.” Tax guns and I’ll go out and sell something I have and go buy one and if they do that I’ll have a bigger yard sale and go out and buy more without going through a gun shop and buy from individuals. (Of course the scripture has a double meaning. The Word of God and a literal sword) We are not to be defenseless!

Of course another dingbat NY liberal. Where is their breed farm at? Sounds like too much inbreeding. 🙂

She is an idiot. Does she think a $100.00 gun tax would stop a purchase or does she get the kickback from the sale.

  • Mathew mcleod November 10, 2015, 9:57 am

Its MY right if I dont want AYNONE to know where my guns are! They dont have a right to put rfid chips in guns. If I dont want a f…n micro chip in my gun I have that right!! Im a law abiding citizen so they have no right to track my firearms or any other law abiding citizen!

    • Mark May 12, 2017, 5:04 am

If chips can be put in they can be removed. I remove/destroy all the chips in my credit/debit cards.

  • Tony Santana November 10, 2015, 8:50 am

How about the advocates for criminals AKA anti-gun liberals propose strict gun laws against criminals with guns. Let’s say if you are in illegal possession of a fire arm and you get caught it’s a minimum of 50 years in prisons. If you are a felon caught with a firearm its 100 years in prison. New York Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer himself is reported to possess a New York concealed handgun permit, and regularly employs armed guards for his personal protection. Just because a politician recognizes that being armed makes THEM safer, doesn’t mean they support YOUR right to keep and bear arms. They think they’re different than you and me, they feel that their life and there family’s life is more important that you and me because of their title they’re entitled to MORE rights than we are. WAKE up NY its time to go after the criminals and time to start protecting law abiding decent American citizens. Now that’s gun control!

  • Jerry November 8, 2015, 12:30 pm

I hope that every law abiding gun onwer realizes this next election could be a turning point in America. By that I mean if we allow people like this woman and Hilarious Clinton to get elected then we stand to loose all rights as they relate to the 2nd amendment. The only way to stop these people is to turn out and vote; NO excuses.
By denying the clintons the White House, we will also ensure the Supreme Court stays a non baised judicial speaked for ALL Americansand not the left as obama would like.
There are enough Conservatives in America to stop the clintons from buying another election and stop them from apssing laws meant to disarm Americans and arming only criminals.
Please, stnad up for our rights and vote. It is not only a right but a responsibility. If we loose this election we may never get our rights returned and it will be the equivalent of painting a big target on our backs.

  • Larry November 7, 2015, 12:59 pm

Another leftist moron Democrat. Why am I not surprised? People, quit voting for those with a “D” behind their name. This one change will solve so many of our domestic problems in this country.

    • Mark May 12, 2017, 5:32 am

There are enough guns for us to buy resale to one another so that we wouldn’t have to buy from gun shops or fill out a 4473. Those who desire to can. It’s not that we would desire to do anything illegal, but buro craps are pushing honest men and women to draw a line. I propose more adds to wake up the sleepy public to what the 2nd Amendment was written for…And that is to shut down Velazquez and send her packing. DemonCraps are destroying our liberties. And to think at one time (I hang my head in shame) I was a staunch Democrat, but now as the ole Christian spiritual would say…”I saw the light, I saw the light, no more in darkness, no more in night”… 🙂

  • DIYinSTL November 7, 2015, 9:20 am

Yeah, the serial numbers we already have fit the bill for a passive ID capability but that is not her goal. When she gets NIST to define the technology for a new and required ID technology, no new firearm companies can startup and those who are completing 80% frames and receivers will become criminals because no one but a large manufacturer will be able to afford the technology.

  • CLIFF November 7, 2015, 8:24 am

THERE WAS A SIMILAR PROPOSAL BACK IN THE 1960’S. THE PRICE ON THAT PROPOSAL WAS EACH GUN TAXED $25.00. THIS WAS ALSO IN NYC. I WONDER WHAT THE TAX WOULD BE TODAY. THIS WAS ONE OF TWO TIMES I CALLED A RADIO TALK SHOW. WHP 580 IN HARRISBURG PA.

  • JPHamilton November 7, 2015, 8:03 am

The stolen firearm database is a non-starter; when ANY article is stolen and reported to local LE, it is entered into NCIC as a stolen article. And if/when recovered, the record is removed from NCIC, so there are no lingering records of ownership that are nationally accessible.

  • Tom November 6, 2015, 8:22 pm

Those guns in NY don’t come from southern states, they come from South America and Mexico, by way of Obama’s open border policy.. And isn’t there a gun manufacturer in NY too, if I recall?

  • Tom November 6, 2015, 8:14 pm

How about a $200 tax on Gay marraige licenses too.. Or $200 tax on Illegals drivers licenses, or a tax on everyone that gives money to the Democrats. Maybe a $100 tax on clothes, or food, or car registrations, or wedding cakes, or earings, or tattoos? I mean, where does it stop? Is it Constitutional to make a tax on one specific item because you just don’t like that item? If it’s because you think it’s dangerous, that won’t cut it because there are Way more deaths caused by bats, fists, knives, cars, etc. than by bullets..

  • hoochbear November 6, 2015, 5:00 pm

1/ Firearms Tax. Definitely. On the criminal that possesses or uses the gun illegally. $10,000 fine + 5-10.
2/ Registration. Simple.. Register & incarcerate criminals.
    3/ any questions? See #1.

  • Pat Bryan November 6, 2015, 1:13 pm

There is a lot of opinion here and not much fact, by Blannelberry nor the commenters.
Non-mandatory reporting for lost or stolen firearms already exists. It WILL get your gun back if someone else tries to register it because: There already IS national database for missing guns: Because every gun sold already HAS “passive identification capability” (called a “serial number”). I know that this all works because I had a pistol lifted and got it returned. You are already paying an enormous tax in the form of manufacturers liability insurance. Everybody in the Gun industry is so “not my fault” that the cost of insurance to subrogate their idiocy far exceeds the cost of the steel to make the guns. I certainly do not want a new $100 tax on firearms. But it is the irresponsibility of the gun lobby that is already driven up the price of firearms. They have imposed a 100% tax on every gun sold in the form of liability insurance and lobbying efforts. Another hundred dollars is a pittance compared to the price gouging they have caused.

  • Marshall November 6, 2015, 1:09 pm

How dumb is dumb? Have you heard of NCIC national crime information Center? All guns lost or stolen, or cars, are recorded in that data base when reported to law enforcement.

  • AmericanVet November 6, 2015, 1:00 pm

It is a Federal Crime under Title 18 of the USC to conspire to, or to interfere in our exercising of our Constitutionally guaranteed rights under the 2A. Any persons, including politicians, who attempt to interfere in our rights should be criminally charged and prosecuted for violation of Federal Law. If by their actions to interfere in our exercising our Constitutional Right under the 2nd Amendment someone loses their life as a result of not being able to exercise said right, such as in a mass shooting or gun free zone, the law specifies the punishment for that as well.

Title 18 USC Section 241 – Conspiracy against rights

“If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of
the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or

If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured—

They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.”

  • Kyle November 6, 2015, 11:51 am

    Real Goal,

    Overcriminalizaation of america.

Goal achieved. 80+% of gun owners will be converted to criminals with the stroke of a pen.

  • Stephen November 6, 2015, 10:31 am

I truly hope Hillary Clinton adopts the same policy. Will be the final nail in her political coffin.

  • John K November 6, 2015, 9:48 am

Just what we need…..another FAILED government database. We can’t even get a lot of States to participate is feeding the NICS database, after how many years in existence?

Just what we need…..even more laws to pile on top of the pile of laws the government REFUSES to enforce now!

Just what we need….. another “tax and spend” Democrat dreaming up another scheme to legally steal our money!

Just what we need…..another self-serving career politician!

  • BR549 November 6, 2015, 9:16 am

I propose a bill that would require Constitutionally IGNORANT and SELF-SERVING politicians to put up a bond of $5,000,000 for when they seem to conveniently forget what their job is.

  • The Pontificant November 6, 2015, 8:54 am

Treason… Let’s form a tribunal, weight the evidence, convict her, sentence her and carry out a suitable punishment and get this behind us all, as quickly as possible. There’s no need to endure this clap-trap or drag this out anymore.

Politicians say these things to get attention and, much like a spoiled child, it’s about time they understand their words have meaning. In her case, they mean treason.

‘Nuff said. Let’s get to work, folks!

  • Judi November 6, 2015, 8:43 am

Pretty soon it’ll be cheaper to buy a 3-D printer and make our own guns! All we need are the “blueprints”. 😉

  • Willy Roentgen November 6, 2015, 8:33 am

Do the gun thieves and illegal sellers also pay the “Gun tax”. BTW – there is already an excise tax on gun manufacturers.

  • Beau November 6, 2015, 8:08 am

Quote: ‘ taxes on guns and ammunition really have one purpose: to make gun ownership a cost prohibitive right.’

In Maryland, they use the onerous Handgun Qualification License to this same effect. You need a 4 hr training course requiring live fire (ensures training can’t be given in most public buildings), Live Scan Fingerprints and an online application with a $50 application fee. Live Scan costs 54.50 – 80 around the area and training can run from 60 – 100. It can cost up to $200 to exercise your right to own a handgun. Further, magazines are limited to no more than 10 rounds capacity each (you can have higher cap mags if you already have them, but new mags bought in Maryland are limited to 10 – result? People who are eligible to buy handguns are buying shotguns for defense or larger caliber handguns that must necessarily,,,,because the rounds are larger…. hold less rounds in a magazine). Banning AR15 and copycats plus AK47s along with the handgun law has helped to put a number of gun stores out of business.

  • DNS November 6, 2015, 8:03 am

So this congresswoman is an elitist racist? Using words like “on the street” is just elitist slang for “inner city hoods”, which by they mean blacks and other minorities. Only light skinned rich people like me should be allowed to own guns. Or the gun toting security people I have with me can have them too, but not you poor subjects I rule over.
Yes she is either stupid or delusional if she thinks this bill has a chance to make it to committee, much less pass. These pie in the sky liberal wack jobs will never give up though. They know best and won’t be happy until they control every aspect of your life.

  • Brett November 6, 2015, 7:21 am

There is already a data base for stolen or lost guns…. It’s called NCIC……..

  • sue November 6, 2015, 7:17 am

Like the criminals will obey this law more than any other. I agree that it’s simply a way to build a record of gun owners, I believe there may be some case law on that issue somewhere. What’s the chance of being caught unless a weapon you purchased shows up a crime scene, simple enough, it’s supposed to be under the seat in the car I have no idea when it disappeared. Leave my gun alone go after the criminals not me. Typical, don’t want someone to do something then tax the hell out of it. They’re simply driving gun sales underground or to websites in other countries who can get away without charging the fee.

  • spice November 6, 2015, 6:43 am

Wait a minute the NRA has provided schools with gun safety training for years if the schools will ask plus it may not require them to pay anything. So yeah we need a tax to pay for something but most likely it will end up paying for her vacation junkets, expensive clothes, cars, and homes.

    • Lifelong NRA November 6, 2015, 12:27 pm

Like her own personal (spelled a-r-m-e-d) bodyguards. push for 28th amendment. “Congress, nor any other governing body, shall pass any law or ordinance that applies to the citizenry that does not apply equally to them, or any law that applies to them but not to the citizenry.” Put THAT into flowery governmentese and submit it!!!

      • True Red Blooded Patriot November 6, 2015, 6:02 pm

Just another attempt by a wanna be non-patriotic anti-American U.S. citizen disrespecting OUR constitution. Sounds like and/or is just another example of TREASON. The day of reckoning is coming.

  • Mark B November 6, 2015, 5:42 am

How much do you want to bet that one of Bloomberg’s people actually wrote that piece of legislation? I will say they even have gone so far as to coach her on what to say at the press conference. This could be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

    • ExNuke November 27, 2015, 9:01 am

No, not the dumbest, DeGette still holds that record. But this idiot obviously distrusts and hates her own race. It is minorities she is trying to disarm, can’t let the poor think they have the same Constitutional Rights as her contributors.

  • Rick Schwab November 2, 2015, 9:15 am

Thats it, Iam changing party affiliation to republican. Democrats are clueless..
All gun owners should do the same……show Washington you mean business…..

    • Rickychicken November 6, 2015, 7:55 am

My whole family is changing from Democrat to Republican, everyone around here I talk to is changing. I have been a democrat all of my life, no more. Sometimes a person has to stop and think when they make a big change like this, not this time, it was without hesitation.

  • Charles October 30, 2015, 9:29 am

Honestly now, When was the last time that the NRA -or- GOA ( -your choice- association) received any monetary back-up from your household?
I am a disabled individual on a VERY limited income, but still saw my way clear to make three separate donations -plus- a several year extension to my NRA membership in the past year alone.
The preceding year found me purchasing four pieces of signage for display during voting season(s) so that my activism association has the MUCH-NEEDED funding to do the utterly important work they do for us in the national and state arenas that they must operate in.
Carping about your personal attitude toward this issue on the internet or where-ever you can do it in person is NOT enough.
Put your money wher your mouth is. Before it’s too late. You will only be sorry about it if the worst occurs and you failed to fund our mouth pieces on the hill or at the statehouse.

    • Chuck November 28, 2015, 9:43 am

If you think sending the NRA is a solution to the problem you are mistaken. They, also, are part of the problem. I have explained to them on more than one occasion when they called for donations/updating membership that I will never support them again after they endorsed the liar and disgusting Harry Reid.

  • JAQUE BAUER October 28, 2015, 3:20 pm

Democrats keep reminding us how utterly stupid they are. But for every stupid Democrat in elected office, there are cities and states full of the morons who elected them into office. Which of the 2 idiots running for the Democrat primaries will become their nominee for president? Hillary of course. The dumbing down of the American voter began 50 years ago, as the public grade schools became Communist run institutions. Now the Commies control the media, arts, sciences, and the federal government. All that stands between total enslavement and freedom is the 2nd Amendment, and thats one Supreme court justice away from being nullified. Its up to the 3 % of the population not under the spell of Communism to resist the Communist plan to register, ban and confiscate our arms, using the pretense of “safety” as justification.

  • taxx73 October 27, 2015, 10:48 pm

My god! How dumb are these people? Do they really expect any law abiding citizen to actually believe this tripe? Can we say unconstitutional? Oh wait that’s right the public schools aren’t teaching the Constitution anymore. Please America wake up and get these traitorous pinheads out of office. LEAVE OUR RIGHTS ALONE!!!!
