Two gun control bills are awaiting the signature of Colorado Gov. Jared Polis while another is in the final stages of passage after being approved by both chambers of the legislature.

The bills will force those suspected of domestic violence to surrender their firearms, create a state Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and prohibit gun dealers from transferring any firearm until state law enforcement has completed a background check.

The Democratic takeover of the state legislature and the governor’s mansion has allowed anti-gun legislators to pass a wide variety of gun control bills in the last decade. The state already boasts some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, and this new slate of bills represents another step in that direction.

House Bill 21-1255 is aimed at ensuring those suspected of domestic violence surrender their firearms. Anyone who is served with a protective order must now complete an affidavit stating the number of firearms they own, the make and model of each firearm, any reason the person is still in immediate possession of their firearms, and the location of all firearms in the person’s immediate control.

The court will conduct a compliance hearing if the affidavit is not completed, and firearms must be transferred to a law enforcement agency, FFL, storage facility, or a private party who does not live in the same residence as the person.

“We must do everything in our power to protect victims by ensuring that perpetrators remain unarmed,” said Sen. Sonya Jaquez Lewis in a statement following HB-1255’s passage.

House Bill 21-1299 will create an “Office of Gun Violence Prevention” that purports to “coordinate and promote effective efforts to reduce gun violence.” The office is required to conduct public awareness campaigns about gun control laws, and create and maintain “a resource bank as a repository for data, research, and statistical information regarding gun violence in Colorado.”

The gun rights group Rocky Mountain Gun Owners calls the office the “Office of Gun Confiscation.”

Colorado has outlawed the private sale of firearms, but House Bill 21-1298 will tighten the background check requirements even further. Under existing federal law, a licensed gun dealer can transfer a firearm to a buyer within three business days if the background check has not been completed. This new bill will require a licensed gun dealer to obtain permission from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation prior to transferring a firearm even if three days have elapsed.

The bill allows prospective buyers to appeal a denied background check, but it makes no provision for a background check that has been indefinitely delayed.

In addition, the bill expands the scope of crimes that prohibit a person from purchasing a firearm. Being convicted of “harassment” or “cruelty to animals” will now result in a revocation of a person’s Second Amendment rights. Colorado law defines “harassment” as, among other things, directing or making obscene language or gestures towards someone in a public place.

Along with these bills, which all passed roughly along party lines, Colorado gun-rights organizations are fighting a bill that will allow local jurisdiction to pass gun control laws that are even more strict than state laws.

Democratic Gov. Jared Polis is expected to sign any gun control bill that comes across his desk.

Why would any so-called law abiding citizen be against any of these laws?

Dano the fact that you even have to ask that question, shows how little you know. Maybe you want to live in a country that treats its citizens like children. What a joke … anyone who supports a democrat, these days is as ANTI AMERICAN as it gets.

It is really sad to see that my once most beloved state has gotten to the point of being a real hellhole in regards to freedom, thanks to the democrats. It is even more sad when you realize that back in 1999 Colorado was even the first state, in regards to school shootings, to see that gun laws won’t work to stop any kind of dangerous people from getting their hands on guns and using them to kill as many people as possible. Remember, sawn-off shotguns were already forbidden before the Columbine High School massacre. Yet, two of the four guns used by the two killers were sawn-off shotguns. A girlfriend of them bought them legally at a gun show and then just gave the guns to them, while they received the Tec-9 from an illegal seller in the first place. Of course, they also have made the legal shotguns sawn-off themselves and never said “Oh no, we cannot do it, because this is against Colorado law! Alright, let’s scrap our plans for Columbine and just don’t do it!” After the massacre they have forced background checks on private sales at gun shows as well, but due to the fact that the girlfriend of the two killers would have come out clean, if background checks for private sales at gun shows would have already existed before Columbine, it would have not changed anything. The only thing that would have happened is that the two shooters would have received their guns just a few days later and that’s it, Columbine would have still happened. And of course they have chosen a soft target, their school, where guns on school grounds are forbidden. Remember this, people of Colorado, when you will have your next voting day!

Unfortunately for 21-1299 obscene gestures and language are protected by the 1st amendment. At least that part of it will be easily overturned.

To become a member of the Democratic Party mandatory reading is the way tyrants take over a country the Prime Book is Adolfo Hitler’s Mein Kamph. Wise up people many of the ideas he states are happening NOW! Taking away the honest people’s rights to keep and bear arms is at the top of the list of what is to be done. It’s happening now especially in Colorado with the most restrictive gun laws in the country!

Such a great place like Colorado is pretty much going to be ruined forever. Our country is being INVADED literally since Biden took office, and all these democrats want to do is make everyday life more difficult for real citizens. Chicago, St. Louis, Philly, are all RUINED FOREVER PERIOD. 10% of Philly is still kinda nice, the rest there is no reason to even bother. We have a culture problem. Our schools have failed entire generations. Not a single kid in philly,or Baltimore was above 50% proficient in math or basic reading/writing . I mean $17 Billion budget a year I guess that’s not enough. The drugs, and illegals who are now invading our country will make things so bad for decades to come that any hope to make America Great it gone. I call it the way I see and live it. And truth real truth shows that inner cities run by democrats are RUINED. Guns are one of the last things that need more laws. How about actually confronting problems like why is it that every single day/night our inner cities have dozens of shootings, yet not even a single shooting in the suburbs? Why is that? People I know have lots of Guns, but at NO POINT do we say hey let’s go shoot up that car. Or let’s go get that dude for being apart of some stupid gang. The culture problem within the black communities is generations away from being civil. The drugs being brought in since Biden , will affect millions of good families for decades. Yet Biden is so in the dark the man truly is a career politician with no idea how bad it is.

Why is that we keep feeling that our government is, “Donning the robes of our oppressor’s”?

Don’t interfere with anything in the Constitution
    that must be maintained,
for it is the only safeguard of our liberties”

1 Timothy 1:8 But that’s not how they apply them.

Colorado has been invaded by crazy lefties for a long time. I was stationed at Ft. Carson, 1962-63 and I ran into some real jerks. One incident was in Colo. Springs. I made a left turn in the middle of a block, in the business section and I pulled into a parking space. Some loud-mouthed jerk from back east said, “You can’t do dat heah”. I said, “are you talking to me”? I just did it. Where’s the sign that says I can’t. The state has been occupied by assholes for a long time. Upon discharge, I put that suckhole in my rearview mirror.

Colorado is no longer the same state I was born and grew up in; it is disgusting what has taken place in this state under Democratic “leadership.” These bills (soon to be laws) are just another Californication of Colorado.

This is what happens when your state gets overwhelmed by pot-smoking progressives

I thought we pushed the British off of these shores? All along they were hiding in Colorado. We the government, which is made up of the people of the state, are now the elite and only we can have guns. Sounds kind of like a monarchy. The column states Democrats took all houses and governor seat in Colorado. It should of said communists took all houses and governor seat. The majority of people in America support background checks they say. Is this the same as Biden getting 80 million votes but now one showed up at his rallies? Can anyone say dominion? It’s not who votes. It’s who counts the votes.
