Historical Guns

So you want to experience a gun that the pistoleros of old carried? The wheel guns of lawmen and outlaws alike was the Colt 1873. Original Colts are getting more and more expensive and then there is the risk of shooting a 100 plus year old revolver. But there are options to get the next best thing. Thanks to some of our Italian brothers we can shoot reproductions of the classic old west guns without fear for safety, damaging a collectable and with out breaking the bank. This Uberti Cattleman is a great place to start.

German Sport Guns (GSG) was at SHOT Show 2015 showing off what maybe their coolest product yet–an MP40 in the original 9mm caliber. GSG makes an MP40 now, but it is in .22LR. The new 9mm will have a certain historic appeal, albeit a dark one. Click here to read the details.

Cimarron is a well respected name among those who know their 19 century replicas. The company is very innovative. They understand the market well enough to provide guns for those who want historical accuracy, shooters who want speed, and they still manage to put out great guns for the rest of us, too–the ones who prefer a bit more Hollywood in our six-guns. Here’s two new guns for 2015.

Kingston Armory had a couple of intriguing rifles at SHOT Show this year. How does a .22 LR Garand or M14/M1A style rifle suite you? Well Kingston Armory is in the process of making them. These guns look and feel almost exactly like the real thing, but the rimfire chamberings will be much easier to shoot.

I love historic guns and the reproductions of them. One of my favorite of the Italian makers is Davide Pedersoli. I stopped by their booth in the Little Italy section of the SHOT Show floor to check out what was new.

In the middle of the crowded and hectic SHOT Show there is a small quite museum. The NRA Museum to be exact. They have brought a few historic and iconic firearms to display for the show and to promote the NRA Museums.

Park rangers found a Model 1873 Winchester rifle under a juniper tree in a remote area of the Great Basin National Park in Nevada.

James H Cohen and Sons have been in the antique firearms business since 1898. If you are a collector and lover of rare guns you owe it to yourself to visit the Cohen’s shop. The store is on Royal Street in the heart of the French Quarter, and filled with the sort of guns you’d typically expect to find in a museum.
