Californians Must Comply with 'Bullet Button' Registration by June 30th, 2018! Or else...

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (Photo: Facebook)

Californians in possession of rifles outfitted with “bullet buttons” must register their firearms with the state’s Department of Justice by 11:59:59 on June 30th to avoid breaking the law or being forced to disassemble or modify their rifles.

Pro-gun organizations in California have been getting the word out in an attempt to encourage compliance with the law and to help their members navigate the online registration website.

“We strongly urge compliance with the law,” Gun Owners of California said in a recent newsletter. “Remember, we are the law abiding. If we don’t like the laws, rather than break them, we will work diligently to change them – in the courts, legislatively – and through the elections.”

Easier said than done. California has for years been a breeding ground for anti-gun legislation, and their recent prosecution of a man attempting to register his AR-15 may discourage other gun owners from complying with the new mandate.

The law, passed last year by the California legislature, requires that “any person who, from January 1, 2001, to December 31, 2016, inclusive, lawfully possessed an assault weapon that does not have a fixed magazine, including those weapons with an ammunition feeding device that can be readily removed from the firearm with the use of a tool (commonly referred to as a bullet-button) must register the firearm before July 1, 2018.”

Registrations will not be accepted after June 30, which means that gun owners who miss the deadline must either disassemble, destroy, or modify so that it doesn’t fall within California’s definition of an “assault weapon.” If they choose to retain their “assault weapon” without registering it, they risk felony charges and prison time.

Californians wishing to comply with the law must register their firearm in the California Firearms Application Reporting System and be ready to upload the following:

  • At least 4 photos of the firearm you intend to register (see sample photos)
    • Close-up of the bullet button style magazine on the firearm.
    • Stock to barrel (with the firearm lying horizontally on a flat surface).
    • Left side of the receiver/frame.
    • Right side of the receiver/frame.
  • Proof of residency, if submitting a joint registration.
  • Military permanent duty station orders indicating assignment within California, if using a military ID to register. Active duty military spouse ID is not acceptable.

Gun Owners of California points out that DOJ websites have been known to malfunction when deadlines approach, so registrants should try to avoid waiting until the last minute.

“Be aware – if there is a problem, it will be the REGISTRANT’S fault – not DOJ’s,” they say.

The registration website says that the customer support center will only be available during normal business hours, but that staff will be answering emails sent to [email protected] until 11:59:59pm on Saturday, June 30.

Need to build the wall, and it needs to wall off the state of Kalifornication from the rest of us here in the USA.

  • Nashoba Losa June 30, 2018, 12:41 am

I am fortunate to live elsecwhere instead of in California.. But even here in Oklahoma, things are not so rosy. Our State House and Senate both approved Constitutional Carry a month or so ago, but our Republican Governor sold us out and refused to sign the bill into law. The Legislative sessions for both the House and Senate expired before they had time to make the bill into law over the Governor’s objection. She dd not veto the bill, but just did not sign it. The result was the same. I am so tired of the division that has occurred because of Obama and the Democrat Party and all their Liberal/Socialist/PC/far left BS. And the deepening of the divide encouraged by some of the RINO conservatives. I am tired of being betrayed by our elected officials who refuse to represent us and represent themselves and their special interests instead. We do pretty good at the ballot box but sometimes a stinker sneaks in like Governor Fallin. Give them SoCal and move on down the road. Let Mexico have them back and build a wall to exclude them from the U.S.A. We are all tired of them.

An assault weapon with a fixed magazine? A selective fire weapon with a fixed magazine? What?

  • Wayne Bundza June 29, 2018, 8:45 pm

I will NEVER do business with Calif. again. Lots of other places to do business.

  • Edward Rambo June 29, 2018, 3:56 pm

I’d tell the Communist State of Commie-Fornia where to stick their illegal, un-constitutional permit up their Communist poop-shoot, they pass all this BS in their legislature because the people wouldn’t let it pass, VOTE THE COMMIES OUT!!!

  • Kimberpross June 29, 2018, 3:46 pm

How is ignoring this law any different than ignoring illegal immigrants and being a sactuary for them.

  • bbbs53 June 29, 2018, 3:33 pm

Why don’t my comments post? Chickens!

  • bbbs53 June 29, 2018, 3:32 pm

Went to firearms school in Kalifornia, graduated in ’86. This doesn’t bode well for the rest of us. Needs to be taken to court and fought, but good luck in the people’s republic!

  • Gopher June 29, 2018, 3:02 pm

…even if you had disposed of the weapon after December 2016?

Give Southern California to Mexico. Then annex British Columbia. We need a land bridge to Alaska!

    • Dabigmoose November 8, 2019, 5:45 am

We do not want any of this in Alaska . We already have a wall to keep out Libs and its not working as some get through it. But the Brown bears are being well fed . Libs like to take selfie photos with bears lol

  • Area 52 June 29, 2018, 1:30 pm

There is no hope for California on second amendment issues. I’m tired of hearing that they is a lot of conservatives in that state. If there are they just to lazy to vote or too stupid to vote for the right candidate. California is officially lost especially on gun rights.

  • Mike Ross June 29, 2018, 1:24 pm

F’ing California. First they require residents to put ‘bullet buttons’ on their rifles, now they are requiring all rifles so equipped be registered. Confiscation is the next step. California used to be a magnificent state, but it’s been ruined by the Left, Kommiefornia has taken over.

  • Russell June 29, 2018, 12:47 pm

or else some goof will come to your Door, and you get to shoot them.

  • Grampa Friday June 29, 2018, 12:42 pm

Why are pro-gun groups still encouraging compliance with tyranny? Defiance is the answer. Register nothing.

  • Steven Johnson June 29, 2018, 11:56 am

Normally I would not join the NRA. I do not belong to any organizations. However, this has pushed me over the edge. I am joining and I am donating money to other pro second amendment organizations. Gays want their rights to be protected, none of which are guaranteed by the Constitution. Same for pro-choice abortion supporters. Fine, you want my support? Then lets see your support for a right that is guaranteed, the right to keep and bear arms, the second amendment. You can’t do it? Then I can’t help you either.

  • David A Welsh June 29, 2018, 11:25 am

So, obey tyranny until you can change it. How about the gubment, which is supposed to serve you, obeying the law (Constitution)? What a concept. Death by a thousand cuts. You Calipornians don’t have enough Band Aids. Public stocks of the 17th century is where Calipornia officials belong.

  • Dilligaf June 29, 2018, 10:02 am

calicommiefornia……The state where all your rights are stripped and given to criminals and ILLEGAL ALIENS

  • Kris Colt June 29, 2018, 9:48 am

Moved from California in 1987, even then they still had gun shows. I have watched it change over the years into the shit hole it is now, I have never been back there and will never go back. Live in Arkansas, I can set on my back deck and shoot any firearm I have and nobody cares. If you live there consider getting the hell out, you will have more spending money and be happier.

    • Peter Brown June 29, 2018, 1:52 pm

I jackrabbited from the people’s republic of kalifornicia in ’91 in the back of a hay cart by bribing border guards. It was nuts in ’91.
Absolutely, you’re right. If still there, flee with your firearms while you can and don’t look back. The entire people’s republic is lost.

  • Ammed June 29, 2018, 9:43 am

I have lived in this stupid state my whole life, it is a beautiful place to live. Featureless AR’s are not that bad, forget about registering, that will only lead to knowing exactly where they are to confiscate them.

  • Gourdhead June 29, 2018, 9:42 am

Several years back I owned a gun repair business that was over fifty years in business and we did work for people all over the country including Kalifornicate. The commies in Kalifornicate got so bad we had to terminate any business dealings in the state. The main reason was that we were advised by the AG there that we had to let them know if someone from Californicate contacted us, what they wanted and then wait for the AG’s approval before we could respond. This is entirely out of control. Time is drawing near.

  • Ragnar June 29, 2018, 9:27 am

Prelude to confiscation. Just you watch.

    • David A Welsh June 29, 2018, 11:27 am

Correct. You don’t comply with lawlessness from on high. That is tyranny. They are traitors and should be brought up on charges. Their only power rests with those LEOs who would sell out their country and fellow citizens. Otherwise, they are empty suits. Empty commie suits.

  • krinkov545 June 29, 2018, 9:08 am

Out of state gun owners should register bougous weapons with Cali DOJ just totally jack up the system and make it useless.

    • Area 52 June 29, 2018, 1:40 pm

Not a good idea. I suspect it’s a criminal offense to falsely register weapons. If it is a felony or high level misdemeanor they could file charges, get a warrant and extradite the person responsible. The Internet is traceable.

  • Johnei June 29, 2018, 9:08 am

Why does anyone live in California. Move out while you can. We should build Trumps wall up the Eastern Boarder of California to keep all the insane in the state wide asylum.

  • Jay June 29, 2018, 9:02 am

When the citizens of Commiefornia take their State back I will congratulate them, until then abide the law of move I would suggest the latter! When Commie government officials are reminded that it’s their voters who make their job even possible and abide by the Constitution of this Country all will be a better place. If you move you take away that which funds them, taxes! If you like losing your liberty stay and stop whining!

    • JD June 29, 2018, 10:54 am

They won\’t take it back, they just ooze into other decent, for now, states with their ideology that ruined California.

      • steve June 29, 2018, 1:23 pm

If everyone that stands for the constitution and the 2nd amendment leaves Cali, all is lost for their will be no one left to carry on the good fight and Cali will forever be lost. Also, the ideals that have destroyed Cali will eventually follow to wherever you run to hide.

        • Area 52 June 29, 2018, 1:53 pm

California’s gun baning fetish didn’t happen overnight. It mainly happen 1989 when they signed the first version of their assault weapons ban. It was all down hill from there. California gun owners have a history of not fighting the law, but creating a work around like the bullet button that eventually gets banned. Who wants to live in a state where most of the gun rights are already gone, and people who believe in the second amendment are already vastly out numbered. CA is a sinking ship on gun rights that is eventually going to the bottom of the gun banning ocean. I don’t blame people for leaving. The situation is hopeless

      • John L June 29, 2018, 3:19 pm

You are so right. Started in the 60’s. I’ll try and list the fallen states in order. OR, WA, NM, CO, NV. Next to fall will be TX. AZ will hold for a while longer along with ID and MT. UT and WY are OK for now, but who knows in 20 years? Californication is a slow growing cancer on nearby states. Haven’t been able to stop it so far.

  • John June 29, 2018, 9:02 am

California is not the only breeding ground for liberal’s Many of our college’s Have professors and all they have been teaching our kids is socialize is good for our country. Just look at most demonstration most are the younger generation is this not strange? Raise you kid the American way send them of to college and watch how they slowly change there way of thinking towards our country and government This is our #1 enemy toward our country

  • Ronnie U June 29, 2018, 9:01 am

    My personal suggestion to “ALL”
If you are not an N.R.A. member it is about time you join.
Even if you do not own a gun, want to own a gun or even hate guns, You need to know that the N.R.A. is the oldest civil rights organization in America and you can google “THE HISTORY OF THE N.R.A. and learn when and why they started protecting our constitutional rights for ALL CITIZENS ( not just for a few)

    • David A Welsh June 29, 2018, 11:28 am

What’s the NRA doing for Calipornians?

  • joefoam June 29, 2018, 8:56 am

It seems there is no end to the lunacy of the left in CA. Who keeps electing these fools?

    • ~ Occams June 29, 2018, 9:23 am

      Fools.

No shortage here. Sadly, we got overrun by all the other state’s Dreams of Utopia

      • Area 52 June 29, 2018, 1:36 pm

The NRA can’t work miracles. They don’t have a magic wand. The residents of that state votde for anti gun politicians to lord over them. What they sow is what they reap. The NRA can’t do much unless the gun owners of that state help. If they are already doing that, it shows that the gun owners are vastly outnumbered. That means the NRA is going to be limited in power just like they are in place like New York city.

  • Bill June 29, 2018, 8:52 am

  • DEFENDER June 29, 2018, 8:38 am

You would have to kill me to make me even “go” to Calif.
    Its soooo different here.
    Welcome to Tenn. or Ga.
    Business is booming here.
Your AR is welcome here, 30RD Mags – No Prob.

While I recommend it, you don’t even need a permit to “Carry”.
And permit fees were drastically reduced AND term
    increased from 1yr to 5yr.

NO Anti-Gun politician could “Ever” be elected here.
ALL “Proudly Announce” “I am Pro 2A”

My local IDPA(Defensive Pistol) matches have gone
    from 35 each month to 100+ shooters/mo.
3Gun, Defensive Rifle etc are robust also.

    “Come on Down”

If you don’t “carry” here you are “thought of” as ignorant.
    (Even by the Cops.)
    Because you are.
“An armed society is a polite society”.

And we can shoot like Hell too.
A Mass Shooter is likely to be shot to Hell before he gets too far.
Our “approach” – How do you stop Mass Shooters? – Shoot the poor Bastard.
It would be a Mercy Killing.

yes, lets be like you all please and nice to the point of not having any rights because we’re afraid to what ever it is you’re afraid of by speaking the truth. you have your name right at least. “morons are those who like you who tell people to be like you or act like you want them to act. sorry we still have a little freedom left.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed! WHAT PART OF SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND! COMMUNIST PRICK! YOU SHOULD BE HUNG ,BECAUSE YOU AND ALL THE OTHERS LIKE YOU ARE TRAITORS TO THIS COUNTRY AND STATE!

    • David A Welsh June 29, 2018, 11:31 am

He wants us to be a sh%^hole like his Mehico.

  • Warsaw Wizard June 29, 2018, 8:07 am

Before anything else you have to look at California’s past. Many of the voters are from the “flower child love era” of “make love not war” and are voting these same thinking people into office. This mind set will never change until the illegal drug dealers, gang members, and criminals turn on the “flower children” and, either run them out of the state, of kill them off. Now, like it or not, the law is the law and, if you do not obey it, you will suffer the consequences. Unless you purchased your weapon “under the table” they most probably know you have it. California has had a registry since the 70s when I used to go there a lot on business. I will bet that after the deadline they will check the current registration records with their original records and investigate the people who did not register them. Law enforcements greatest weapon is “making an example” out of people by giving them the maximum sentence and publicizing to the fullest. Than they will extent the deadline and give amnesty to those come in and register them. Than in a short period of time they will pass a law totally banning them and issue a mandatory turn in. Make no mistake, this IS NOT a plan to allow you to keep them. It’s a ploy to allow them to know where they are so they can come and get them. Now when the come and get them from the honest, law abiding citizen, the criminals will be armed and law enforcement will MOT have enough people of time to stop their carnage and the liberal anti gunners will be the first ones to cry. And they will have gotten what they wished for. We, as gun owners, must do everything we can to vote these liberal anti-Americans out of office.

  • Bluejacket June 29, 2018, 7:21 am

First I strongly suggest everyone comply with the law, and I said that to say this, when the assault weapons ban went into affect in the ’90’s I collected all of my property and moved out of Cali, taking my tax revenue with me. If you’re going to whine that you can’t afford to, you’ll wish you took a loss and did it anyway when they come to your house for your arms. Good luck.

  • Frank June 29, 2018, 7:10 am

    You can’t fix stupid!

  • Stephen Nickau June 29, 2018, 6:54 am

Mark, obviously you are not a student of history. Hitler did in fact disarm his citizens before his brown shirts and SS confiscated them. He was a socialist just like the ones in California. Stating that the Allies disarmed the populace is like stating that communism didn’t kill over 100 million in the twentieth century. You may want to read a book or two…

    • Walter June 29, 2018, 9:09 am

Stephan Nickau, it was the Weimar Republic, the first democratic government of Germany from 1919 to 1933 who confiscated all privately owned guns, therefore ironically paved the way for Hitler. Hitler actually relaxed the ban of some Firearms for Aryan people only.

    • Mark June 30, 2018, 6:47 pm

Stephen Nickau, actually I am a student of history. Hitler was a National Socialist, not a Socialist and as Walter correctly states, Hitler repealed many of the German gun laws. I’ve read the German gun laws that existed during the NS period and they are much less strict than CA today.

Ted Nugent, (and NRA board member) a little while ago put out pictures of America’s top gun control advocates. Look it up if you can find it, that will tell you who the real Gun Grabbers are.

  • Jon June 29, 2018, 6:49 am

        • Nashoba Losa June 30, 2018, 12:59 am

Actually you can still get some .223/5.56 NATO ammo from Geco, I think, that comes in boxes of 50 rounds appearing in 5 ten round “CLIPS”, just like we used back in the late sixties and seventies for our M16A1s and A2s. I loaded thousands of them into 20 round magazines during my eight years in the OKARNG.

First of all the conservative voting base is vastly outnumbered here by the left wing bastions of commiefornia, the bay area, southern commiefornia and suckrumento. There are more libtards in those areas than in all the rural conservative counties combined so therefore we get over ruled because of their stupidity and ignorance. Sieg Heil to California State government! You truly are exemplary to all Americans on how not to be an American. You sell your souls to Bloomberg and Soros for an extra nickel in your pocket, while depriving true Americans the ability to defend themselves.

    • Mark June 28, 2018, 8:42 pm

Hitler actually never disarmed his citizenry, that is a myth, the allies did, in reference to your “Sieg Heil”. Bloomberg and Soros are both Jews as are most of the gun grabbers.

      • Stearl June 29, 2018, 8:15 am

        Damn you’re an ignorant fool!

Yes, many about WW2 and Germany. You’ll find much of the truth has been suppressed or distorted. Many such books are illegal in Europe. If you’re just watching Hollywood movies you are not getting the truth. Have you ever read a book on the subject?

WHY show registration 1st? why not encourage and show how to go featureless 1st, or one of the many other lower release buttons!! once you register they got you. if you go featureless you can get rid of the bullet button.

The only folks who should need to register are criminals and Dumbascrap Party cabal. All others are honest, law-abiding folks…

Make all the laws and regulations you want, said criminal gangs and cartels. With literally millions of undocumented illegal aliens in Calif.it only makes sense to have overly strict laws and regulations governing guns making it safer for criminal gangs to operate there? like they do south of the border? hold onto your hats politicians, the 2nd is coming and hopefully you are going to be prosecuted.
