We know, it can be tough to get thrilled about a new AR these days. It seems like everybody and their uncle makes one, in every configuration and at every price point possible. So, why should we care about a new AR on the market? Because it is from Taurus, and first impressions seem to show that the company put some serious thought into what the AR consumer market wants today, and how to deliver it for a good price.
The result of this effort is the T4SA, a carbine-style AR in 5.56mm and priced at an MSRP of $1,199. Made right here in the U.S., the T4SA has some interesting features at its price point. Firstly, the carbine makes extensive use of melonite coating (not just for the barrel, but also for numerous other parts including the bolt and bolt carrier assembly) to make for a very lubricious system. The result is a carbine that runs so slickly that Taurus was able to reduce the gas port diameter and restrict the amount of gas needed to run the action.
The result is a soft-kicking, and clean-running carbine with reduced fouling. According to the company, they have a test sample they are running that has 7,500 rounds through it right now with no cleanings and no stoppages. And yes, this is a direct gas impingement system gun. Taurus also claims that barrel life of the 16-inch tube is 10,000+ rounds. A free-float handguard covers a carbine-length gas system.
The T4SA is offered in both M-LOK and Key-Mod versions and comes with a Cerakote Elite finish in three color options (black, jungle and sand). Keep an eye for a full review when this carbine hits the market later this year.

I really want ant one in metallic purple and black. And I’m going to paint the magazine fluorescent orange
Taurus is a shit company now days 1100$ for a ar that I can build twice the gun for less like I said Taurus is trash now days just a little better than high point smh at all the dumb fucks that will buy this trash
I might be one of the dumb fucks who buys one.
Why isn’t there any new or updated information on the Taurus Spectrum 380 ????? This is utterly ridiculous !!!!!! I have a Taurus PT 111 Millennium G2 and absolutely LOVE it. A fantastic pistol, well made, accurate, reliable and priced to sell.
Yes! I have a Taurus P92 9mm and it is rock solid and accurate! I’ve pounded a 1/2″ hole at 30 yds in plywood backed targets with 15 rounds, more than once. I am pretty sure that people that disparage Taurus are people who paid ridiculous amounts for comparable weapons. I also have the PT111 Millenium G2 and it ROCKS!
I just purchased my first Firearm, and it was the PT111 G2 and I really love it. Shot it for the first time a few days ago and I’m excited to learn more about it and really put some rounds through it. Although I am excited to see this AR build and I might purchase this in the upcoming months.
Not a bad attempt at a new AR 15. However, the suggested retail price is twice what it should be, and it still has to go through some level of reliability testing. Good luck.
Everyone is meloniting nowadays.
So, Taurus produces a 400-475 dollar AR and prices it 1199? Talk about a day late and too expensive. Plus, with Taurus’s infamous reliability, it should help you become good friends with the gal at the UPS hub….
WHAT another one.???? SORRY, BUT I HAVE MY QUOTA OF THEM.
Like others on here, I’ve owned several Taurus guns with mixed results, but in general they are pretty solid. When I saw the article I was hopeful we’d be getting a decent AR on the market that would be affordable for people on a budget. Direct impingement is fine, and the slick melonite coating is a nice touch, although I’m not certain I think it was a good idea to reduce the size of the gad port just to reduce recoil, as any reduction in the size of the gas port can make it more susceptible to fouling. Still, it sounds like a gun worth looking at, until you see the price. I expected Taurus to produce a nice gun for maybe $800, but the price actually shocked me. Go to CDNN, and on any day of the week you can get a whole lineup of AR made by everyone from Colt and S&W M&P to DPMS, Bushmaster, Core 15 and on and on for well under $800. Personally, I’m not a DPMS or Bushmaster fan, but I do know people who love them. That being the case, I can’t see Taurus generating a lot of interest from the usual Taurus buying market for a gun at this price. There are a lot of other well functioning ARs out there for less, which gives people some extra money for ammo and range time.
The Taurus rifle running 7,500 rounds without cleaning is a selling point for use in a real combat zone ( instead of posed in a photo shoot in a suburban basement and then posted on AR15 dot com ),
Another AR ? WTF ? And having the M-4 cut barrel “notch” is just plain silly, must be sourcing these barrels from someone who has these? Personally, I see a $500.- $600. AR here heading for a over saturated market that is flooded ! This endeavor will be short lived ?
1,200.00 bucks for an AR. I hope that who ever pays that much for a basic AR will at least get a reach around .
I currently own, and have owned many Taurus firearms through the years, mostly with good results. I would not mind trying their AR but not at that price point. I have 2 complete ARs and a spare upper, that I put together for less than that. I think Taurus is being too optimistic. There are too many well established AR makers to beat.
So Taurus saw an already over saturated AR market, one where they are giving lowers away just to move them. And Taurus said, what the market really needs is another AR nobody will buy? $1100 for a Taurus, yea whatever, they can make them where ever they want, it still has Taurus stamped on it. Not like they are known for their quality where you can charge above market price. Maybe Century arms should jump in with a $1500 AR.
Why do you read theese articles just to bitch, whine and complain? No wonder America is in the toilet you all are blind. Sheep say baaa.
Really a $1200 Taurus AR who’s going to buy this ? With Taurus’s stellar reputation for high quality products , LOL . Maybe they think first time AR buyers will buy it to go with their PT111 . Hey if they’re lucky they won’t have to send it back for a whole year . Of course it’ll take 5mos to get it back and it won’t be fixed . Hey and why is it good that a rifle can run without being cleaned ,what kind of moron doesn’t regularly clean their weapons .Oh yeah the one who’s screaming about what a piece of junk it is when it doesn’t work . Sorry I forgot about that guy .
And the bolt carrier is locked back in that position in that picture with the 7500 brass casings…WHY???
The BCG is in that position because its in a vice block or some other mag well deal to hold it up in the fish tank..Its not a mag
Sorry, Taurus, but I’m not a buyer at that price point.
Well its about time… Knight’s Armament has been buying ar parts from Taurus for years… Let me correct myself, castings. Even the baffles for their suppressors are made by Taurus in banana land. Think about that when you fondle your $3000 KAC. American made rifle….? Yes that includes the M110
You’re are full of shit
Another AR…really??? in an over saturated market indeed. I’d expect a Taurus to come in at around $699. I have a Stag T-2 5.56. Pretty basic. Shoots great and as it goes with the AR platform for me, it’s my best shooter that I enjoy the least shooting. Mil-surp and muzzleloaders forever! The “golf” equivalent.
Oh yeah, another AR in an already over saturated market. And it comes in black, yawn, jungle, and ,zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Oh sorry fell asleep, and sand. Yippee
