Blaser now offers their class-leading R8 modular straight-pull bolt-action rifle in 6.5 Precision Rifle Cartridge, or PRC. These highly sought-after rifles are offered with more than 40 centerfire cartridge options from .204 Ruger all the way up to .500 Jeffrey.
But while some of the more exotic cartridges appeal to niche markets and regions, 6.5 PRC is rapidly gaining traction with a wide range of hunters and sport shooters around the world. An extremely capable and flexible round, 6.5 PRC is a flat-shooting compact magnum that can achieve 200 to 300 more feet per second in velocity over the well-proven 6.5 Creedmoor.
Existing R8 owners can easily swap parts including their barrel and bolt head for 6.5 PCR components in order to take advantage of this increasingly popular cartridge. The R8’s modular design can be configured in a huge number of different ways, from a lightweight field rifle to a long-range target shooter.
“If you combine all the different standard options on an R8, you can build over 47 million unique rifles and that does not even include custom shop options,” said Blaser CEO Jason Evans. “The interchangeability makes it incredibly easy to convert your rifle from one caliber to another by simply switching out the barrel and bolt head.”
“This can be done in less than a minute,” said Evans. “The engineering and craftsmanship is so extraordinary, after any barrel change, the rifle will shoot to within a half MOA every time.”
Because users can easily convert the R8, one gun can serve a wide range of roles. But other elements of the action have a lot of appeal on their own.
Blaser uses a saddle mount system for optics, which guarantees a return to zero, even with different optics. The saddle mount locks into the free-floating barrel, not the receiver, to ensure a high degree of repeatability. The receiver is very compact and puts the shooter’s hand right along the front of the pistol grip and trigger for fast shooting.

The bolts and barrels use 14 locking surfaces for strength and consistency which also aids in accuracy. It also features a manual decocker for extra safety.
The R8 is also offered in true left-hand versions, to accommodate all shooters. The quality and performance of Blaser rifles do come at a price, but they will also provide amazing experiences for generations. For more information visit Blaser online.
