President Joe Biden released a recorded video last week to mark the anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre, plead with Congress to pass gun control legislation, and take a victory lap about his administration’s executive action targeting privately made firearms.
“It’s still frustrating now, for you and me and many others in Parkland, Florida, and Oxford, Michigan — countless communities across the country,” he said. “These horrific shootings make national headlines and embarrass us a nation. And for many others, every day, particularly in Black and Brown communities, there is the equivalent of a mass shooting we don’t even hear about.”
The president called on Congress to pass a universal background check bill, a bill to prohibit firearm ownership for alleged domestic abusers, and his “Build Back Better” social welfare bill, which includes investment in “community violence intervention programs.”
“I’ve helped beat the NRA with your help twice,” he concluded. “It can be done again. We have to keep up the pressure. We have to act. We can’t give up. We have to get it done.”
Congress may have been closer to “getting it done” than has previously been reported. Though the Democrat-controlled U.S. House has passed sweeping gun control measures, the split U.S. Senate has so far refused to take a vote on any anti-gun legislation.

However, according to the Washington Post, Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy was close to inking a deal with Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham that would have required background checks on gun sales at all gun shows.
“The two had for months negotiated with outside groups on a background-check bill that could pick up at least 10 Republican votes in the Senate,” according to the Post. “Murphy and Graham were negotiating legislation that would expand background checks for purchases at gun shows but not for online sales, the Connecticut Democrat said.”
Those talks eventually fell apart when it became clear that Graham wouldn’t be able to get enough Republicans on board.
In his address, Biden claimed to have “curbed the proliferation of ghost guns,” cracked down on rogue gun dealers, and promoted safe gun storage.
In fact, the Biden administration has yet to do anything about privately made firearms, i.e., “ghost guns.” The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives released a proposed rule in May banning the sale of unfinished receivers and redefining “frame or receiver.” But the agency has yet to finalize it after they received nearly 250,000 comments, the majority of which were negative.
It’s unclear when they will release a final rule.

I would like to know how many guns Chris Murphy and Lindsey Graham own? How many have they bought in the last 10 years? I suspect that the answer is a big, fat, zero. I almost had to laugh at the comment about “expanding background checks at gun shows but not for online sales”. The dummies don’t even seem to know that ALL online sales from a dealer (in-state or out-of-state) must go through your local FFL dealer including a NICS check. Now, if they’re talking about online sales within your state in an individual transaction, I guess that would be the same as any personal transaction whether online or not.
If Biden and the Democraps are serious about wanting to decrease gun-related deaths, put the effort into targeting the groups responsible for the majority of the homicides – i.e. the gang-bangers and druggies, There’s a lot of talk about the horrible situation in Chicago, but the bulk of their gun incidents occur in a fairly small area (maybe 10 square miles?), at fairly predictable times of day or night, in many cases by individuals known by the police. I’ve got to believe that intensive police presence in the target area at the “prime times” would reduce the activity. Of course, you’d hear a big uproar from the racist mayor of Chicago, Maxine Waters, Corey Bush, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, and others who will yell “discrimination”. If that doesn’t solve it, I guess there’s always “Stop & frisk” as an option.

The non-gun owning world assumes you can go online order any gun you want and have it delivered to your door with no 4473 filled out and checked through NICS by a FFL holder, I wish the NRA would get out in front of this and create a campaign that teaches the public buying a gun online requires the same paperwork and process as buying from a brick and mortar store. I hope they can put something together. Lindsey Graham has a history of collaborating on bi-artisan deals in the past, even if he did go through a phase of being submissive to His Orangeness. In some ways this is an era of renewed common sense and that common sense is coming through in public policy on state, local, and national levels; but in other ways there is a renewed resistance to common sense and outright defiance against the universal and basic scientific knowledge. Can our collective better natures overcome gun violence, climate change denial and a pandemic of the unvaccinated? I hope humanity can win.

Thank you for starting the dialogue here, Shanz. Sadly, not every state requires background checks for firearm sales between private individuals. In some states, mine included, firearms can be sold between individuals at gun shows without a background check. If a customer purchases a firearm from an FFL dealer at a gun show, he must still submit to a background check.
It sounds like your state is more enlightened and has universal background checks. That is a step in the right direction but we need it to be nationwide.
