Police in Philadelphia are investigating an attempted car theft after the car’s owner shot and killed one of three suspects last week. The owner, Steve Thompson, 54, was legally armed and so far, he is not facing any charges.

The attempted theft took place just after 8 a.m. in the 5,800 block of the Cobbs Creek Parkway in Southwest Philadelphia.

Initial reports suggested that it was an attempted carjacking, but the man was inside his home when the thieves made their attempt. The men were attaching tow straps to the car to try and steal it off the street.

The man who was shot managed to drive off for a short distance, snapping free from the tow cables, before crashing into a nearby school bus. The 52-year-old suspect was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead from his injuries.

The two other men fled on foot and appeared to be armed, although what was originally thought to be a firearm left at the scene turned out to be just a realistic replica.

Students were on board the bus at the time of the crash, but no other injuries have been reported.

This comes at a time when car thefts and catalytic converter thefts are on the rise nationwide.

The cops have charged the owner. They charged him for carrying without a license (a felony in Philadelphia). Seems , once he stepped off the curb and into the street, he needed a carry license.
Seriously. The Soros funded DA , Larry Krasner (“Let Em Loose Larry”) hates all the people in Philly blasting carjackers.

The Accura owner interfered with the equitable distribution of his property and should be arrested, say Marxist/socialists everywhere.

It’s what happens when law abiding citizens have had enough. The thief believed the crime wouldn’t be punished. Oops.

It is fortunate for us that natural rights come from God and not from Liberals…and that the nation’s founders recognized the fact and lodged it in our founding documents.

This guys natural rights disappeared, as he got arrested for not having a carry license.

Towing with a Honda??? He deserved to be shot for the crime of dumbassity.

The homeowner had no right to murder the thief. The homeowner should be arrested and charged with manslaughter. The carjacker did not have a weapon. The homeowner should have called the police, not take the law into his own hands. The homeowner became judge, jury, and executioner. Arrest the homeowner – this is not the wild wild west.

The homeowner had every right to protect himself, family and property. There’s no telling how long it took him to save up to purchase a vehicle so he and his family had a way of going. Call the police? By the time they got there his car would have been long gone and the homeowner would have been left with nothing but a useless police report.
I can see by your name that this was probably one of your amigos that got shot, but did you ever stop to think. If he was home or at work ( instead of out stealing other peoples property) that he would still be alive!! People in this country are tired of being victims and are fighting back. So, what your little friend did was in essence kill himself. The only downside to this story is, the other two wasn’t carried off in body bags. But there’s always next time.

        Racist much?

        • Chrissy Gilbert January 31, 2022, 3:17 pm

Really? Sympathy for the criminal is not tolerated here. Yes, his comment could be worded different but for Jose to sympathize with the liberal left media that love to say “unarmed blank man” was shot. If more criminals got a lead vaccine we could all have a better life.

Yep, use that race card every time, bozo! We don’t give a damn what color the thief is, we just hate thieves. Maybe if you had ever worked for something and had it taken from you, you would understand.

Don’t want to get shot? Don’t be a piece of shit criminal.

    • Mark Wynn January 31, 2022, 4:05 pm

Yes, the homeowner should have intuitively known that the gun — bought and carried by the felon because it looked so real — was actually a replica toy gun. The least the homeowner could have done was to wait and got shot, because then he’d know for sure it was a real gun.

I’m happy that there is one less career criminal off the streets.
