Really a 300 blackout? That’s the laziest AR cartridge made. A 223 has alot more chance

I’m curiouswhat about a hot load in 38 super ++p

  • Matt January 1, 2015, 5:39 pm

How much are the bullets slowed? Try shooting through a chronometer on both sides of the glass. Use several different calibers and types of ammunition to see how slowing is related to bullet size, weight, and initial velocity.

would like to see u fire a 44 magnum at the bullet “resistant” glass. use a full metal jacket and also, a hollow point. thank you.

  • Randall January 1, 2015, 1:57 pm

I would like to see a 454 casual versus the bullet proof glass. Randall

I’ve had some experience with DuPont Lexguard- it’s a “bullet resistant” polycarbonate, used by the prison system and a lot of banks. In testing, a 7 mag would not penetrate… but a 55 grain .223 would. Same for 45 ACP, 44 mag, .357 mag, 30-30, 7.62×39- all became window dressing. The ice pick like nature of the .223 would nearly always penetrate.

HOW ABOUT .30 CARBINE, .45LC (FROM RUGER REVOLVERS).
    ALSO .50AE FROM DESERT EAGLE?
    SHOULD BE INTERESTING!

  • Hugh January 1, 2015, 8:38 am

I’d like to see the BP- glass moved closer to the bluff and then angled like a modern auto windshield. Then retry the test with the same cartridges and same distance to test penetration?

I would like to see some pistol caliber rounds shot through a rifle or carbine like 9mm; 40s&w; 357 magnum; and 44 magnum. Thank you !!!

    1. Bullet RESISTANT glass is rated to stop different calibers. It was designed to last as long as it is is needed–until you get out of the way of the shooter. It’s not designed so you can stand behind it and mock the shooter while he continues to shoot at you. They start shooting, you start moving. Once the class is hit the first time, all bets are off as far as its performance are concerned. There are just too many variables.
    2. The characteristics of bullet resistant glass are calculated when the glass is mounted and secured properly. Not leaned up against a fence post.
    3. Bullet resistant glass is rated based on several factors and responds differently in different situations. Generally it is not designed to be shot at, left in place and then shot at again. Failure characteristics will be different if the bullet strikes the same place twice, subsequent projectiles hit near a previous strike, etc.
This is not a valid assessment of the bullet resistance of this, or any other, piece of glass.

    7.62 Tokarev and .357 Sig, 15 to 25 yards.

    • John Browning December 8, 2014, 3:06 pm

Tokarev and Sig are pistol cartridges. Depending upon the rating of the glass and other variables, (mounting, weather, how many times the glass has been hit already), they might stop them.

Love to see what a 45-70 would do, and for that matter a good old fashioshion 1911 .45 load! Thanks

    What is the difference between a 762-39 and a 762 55?

    • Gerry December 8, 2014, 2:48 pm

Bigger cartridge with more room for more powder.

    • The Lost Woodsman December 8, 2014, 2:53 pm

There is no real cartridge as 7.62x55mm. Cal. .30’06 is close.
7.62x51mm is the closest American cartridge in common use–M1A1 (M14) M240 medium machine gun. A lot of sporting rifles. Known as .308 in the civilian market. I, personally, find 7.62x51mm a much better cartridge than 7.62x39mm for a variety of reasons.

7.62x39mm is a Warsaw pact cartridge (AK47), although you can find a lot of rifles chambered in 7.62×39 now.

      • Obie Tutt January 1, 2015, 4:12 am

        7.62 x 51 is a 308 or 7.62 nato. 30-06 is a bit bigger. I believe 30-06 is a 7.62 x 55

        • Bill Brown January 1, 2015, 10:12 am

          30.06 Is a 7.62 X 63

        There is the Russian 7.62x54R. It’s close to 30-06, being ~ 200 ft/sec slower with a 180 gr bullet.

      • SportShooter January 1, 2015, 12:42 pm

7.62 X 54R is the russian round for the Mosin Nagant. The gun used in the sniper story “Enemy at the Gates”. When the Russians were battling the Germans at Stalingrad.

    • Mike Price January 1, 2015, 9:24 am

      16mm and slightly more powder.

  • Victor December 8, 2014, 7:46 am

I belong to a Desert Eagle Forum. We would Love to see a Desert eagle 44 Mag and Desert Eagle 50AE take on the Bullet proof glass

  • Nathan Winans December 8, 2014, 5:39 am

I would be very interested in seeing what the 7.62x54R would do with both lead and the typical armor piercing rounds. I’m sure the armor piercing will go through but have heard that even the available hunting loads will. Also, the .357 magnum has been said to be able to go through all sorts of things including bullet proof glass. Maybe if you ran some of the different available rounds through we could once and for all know just what the iconic round is capable of doing.
    Thank you!
