2A Holster and Mag Carrier–Review

I’ve been doing more work with the Beretta M9 lately, and I’ve never been a fan of the basic holsters that are issued with the gun. I like to carry big guns concealed. To do so, I prefer a holster I can move just off of my hip. I like holsters that have a decent cant, one that minimizes the size of a full-sized handgun by tilting the gun out of the vertical alignment.

The Standard Bearer, from 2A Holsters, is ideal for this. While most Kydex holsters do their respective jobs well, I like 2A’s pancake design. There are two things about this holster that make it more effective than typical OWB holsters.

The first is the shape. When I was setting up the review, I was asked about my waist size. Now I know why. This thing fits on my side like a custom made prosthetic. And it isn’t small, either. It wraps around my hip without adding much girth to my already bloated waistline.

The second feature I like is the snap-on belt loop system. The clips are designed to snap open at the bottom and slide over the belt. Once on, they snap back in place. This allows you to take it off easily, but it isn’t such a flimsy system that the holster will come loose (much less off) during a draw. Watch the video below for a full demonstration.

I’ve been carrying the M9A1 a lot this winter. I’m still trying to get my concealed draw down under 1.5 seconds. I can move from complete concealment and put a round on the target in 1.5 seconds, but I’d like to get down to 1 even (which is about my best time from an open OWB holster.

Prices start at $55.99. Not bad for a holster this robust and this easy to get on and off. And 2A can make a wide variety of holsters and mag holsters. They other colors, too, if tactical-black isn’t your thing. Scroll down and see more pics.
