Anybody who has watched the vintage gun market realizes that the 16ga. Sterlingworth handling characteristics have been discovered, all built on the diminutive 20ga. frame making them lighter than most all other American built 16’s. The prices have gone up significantly with the nice 16ga. guns being bought up, thereby reducing the available guns on the market. Most will agree that the Fox Sterlingworth 16ga. is the best value for a small gauge vintage American double gun. Balanced delightfully just ahead of the hinge pin THIS FOX IS A TRUE ULTRALIGHT 16 GAUGE GUN weighing just 5lbs. 10oz. with the 26” number 4 weight barrels factory choked IC/M. This gun was made for bird hunting! You would be hard pressed to find one lighter, and when walking over hill and dale for upland pursuits, you will appreciate this Fox. It is almost a pound lighter than a similar Parker! This Sterlingworth, sn352975 made in 1915, was built during the early years when the best Fox guns came to be. If you look closely, you will notice this Sterlingworth has factory bone and charcoal case color. The year 1915 is about when A.H. Fox Gun Co. began using cyanide case color, and that practice continued until the end of production. I like the bone and charcoal colors better. THIS GUN IS COMPLETELY FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES ON ALL METAL, SOMETHING THAT IS HARD TO FIND IN TODAY’S WORLD, ESPECIALLY WITH THE HIGH CONDITION YOU SEE IN THIS FINE FOX. The barrels retain 93% blue, thinning near breach and muzzle with some fine pinprick surface pitting in those locations, the action 85% vivid case color, trigger guard mostly a pleasing silver/grey, and the factory original wood wearing a high-quality hand-rubbed oil finish recently done with no marks or flaws, no cracks or repairs. Just look at the wood to metal fit and the factory original flat top checkering…there are few Fox Sterlingworth guns left in this nice of condition. The mechanics are superb, the screws are perfect and unmarked over the years, the bores are like mirrors, and the barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun with the top lever well right of center. The gun has been used over 109 years but has been well cared for. She even has the original butt plate. Priced affordably, it is a great bird or clays gun and will function flawlessly as you enjoy carrying a piece of American history. If you like a gun that has no flaws, we can rust blue the barrels for $475 and still have the gun for the opening of your upland seasons at the beginning days of September.
