It takes a special kind of scumbag to rob mothers and children outside of a school, but Elivelton Neves Moreira thought he was up to the task earlier this month in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
He wasn’t counting on off-duty military police officer Katia da Silva Sastre, who jumped into action when she saw her daughter and friends were in danger.
“I didn’t know if he was going to shoot the kids or the mothers or the security guard at the school door,” the officer told the Independent. “I just thought about defending the mums, the children, my own life and my daughter’s.”
Recently released surveillance footage shows Moreira approaching a group of mothers and children who are standing outside of Colégio Ferreira Master School in preparation for a Mother’s Day party.
The thug pulls out a semi-automatic handgun, points it at the crowd, and appears to reach for one of the women’s handbags.
Sastre can be seen pulling out her own gun, and she doesn’t hesitate to use it when she sees an opportunity.

“I had to act quickly to end his aggression and prevent him from harming anyone. I reverted to the training I have received in the corporation,” she said.
“It’s gratifying to have been in the right place to have saved all our lives.”
She shoots Moreira two or three times, and he falls to the ground, yelling in pain. Sastre retreats behind a car for cover, but Moreira had already dropped his gun and put his hands in the air. Sastre kicks it to the side and holds Moreira at gunpoint until police arrive.
Investigators later discovered that Moreira did manage to shoot back, but his first shot hit the ground and his second jammed in the firearm.
Moreira died of his wounds at the hospital later that day.
Sastre was formally commended for bravery in a ceremony on Sunday.
Márcio França, the governor of São Paulo, said Sastre acted with “dexterity, technique and courage.”
“She went to the party to celebrate [Mother’s Day] and a situation like this happened,” Franca said. “She acted so precisely, so perfectly, that we decided to honour her.”
The governor, likely not echoing the sentiments of the mothers and children who were there that day, described Moreira’s death as “sad and regrettable.”
“It is not ideal that the suspect died. We would have preferred this had not happened,” he said. “But it is a warning to those who take up a gun that they could be killed because our security professionals are well trained to protect the public.”

Know what’s sad? In Brazil, citizens are not allowed to own handguns (since about 1990). Also sad: You are not allowed to carry close to a school in America. Thank God LE was there.
That is incorrect. You can carry close to schools in America. The national Gun free school zone law exempts people with state carry licenses.
That’s why constitutional carry states still issue carry licenses.

Andy, andy, andy…….you’ve got it all wrong. That which rises to the top is not “scum”; it is the cream of the crop. Our American men and women in blue are brave, courageous, and unselfishly dedicated to protecting the public from “scum” like that yellow belly who tried to rob women and children at gunpoint. Military Officer Sastre’s heroic response to the situation in Sao Paolo was much balls-ier than you’ll ever be, as you hide behind a keyboard to hurl insults at the Thin Blue Line. But you missed. Your trash-talking didn’t even scratch our law enforcement servants’ distinction, but rather served to reveal your cowardly contempt toward those who champion to serve and protect. Andy, go to the range and spend some productive time to work on your marksmanship. Maybe some day you too will be able to execute as timely and impressive a response to lawlessness, as Officer Sastre’s.
You go girl. If more thugs were met with this kind of resistance(read concealed carry) they would think twice about trying something. The CDC came up with the 2.5mm number for defensive gun uses, too bad there weren’t the same amount of criminals put away.

If this had happened in the U.S. the thug would have been seen sympathetically by the MSM as they reviewed his background and poor upbringing all of which caused him to commit crimes for which he wasn’t responsible.
The police officer would have been charged with excessive force and subjected to round after round of review and second guessing. Once the thug died his family would have sued the officer and the city for compensation and in the end the officer would have left the force and been continued to be excoriated in the press. Interesting how it happens elsewhere in the world when you break the law you pay the price and law enforcement is commended for quick action and it’s over with.
She sure puts the scum cops in this country to shame.
What a rotten thing to say. The LEOs in this country, the USA, are every bit as valiant as this young lady. The fear of second guessing and being excoriated in the press as they support the thug and not the cop keeps some, but not most, from reacting as fast as she did (see my comment above). I would hardly call our police forces “scum”. I hope you never need one someday as I wouldn’t blame them for slow walking to your aid.

I keep watching but the only thing I see is a lovely lady standing over a useless idiot and she is packing heat. Come to think of it surely it’s a good thing to stare at, but not just watching and waiting for her to walk a mud hole in his ass..
