J.P. Sauer,sn406384,1953, 20GA, 6lbs. 4oz., Chokes M/F, LOP 14 5/8", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 7/16"
J.P. Sauer & Sohn have been makers of fine firearms for nearly 3 centuries, producing some of the most ornate and well-engineered shotguns ever made. Post WWII with the Soviet Union controlling Suhl Germany, the company was amalgamated with several other East German gunmakers that produced J.P. Sauer guns often labeled in tandem with the original maker and the newer entity. This Sauer shows this feature, being labeled “Fortuna FERMERLY (formely) J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Suhl Germany. This beautiful J.P. Sauer, sn406384 proofed in 1953, is in very high, FACTORY ORIGINAL CONDITION INCLUDING WOOD AND METAL, ALL PARTS ORIGINAL TO THE GUN, UNMOLESTED FOR OVER 70 YEARS. The Model 30E was the mid-grade of J.P. Sauer’s boxlock action, modeled after the Anson Deeley design with improvements including intercepting sears and scalloped back of the action as part of the “upgrade”. This Sauer is just how you want to find a vintage side x side…99% factory barrel blue, 96% factory case color, 75% factory trigger guard blue, 99% of the factory hand-rubbed oil finish on the nicely figured European walnut stock, perfect screws and wood-to-metal fit, and crisp mechanics. The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face and are secured with 7 locking mechanisms including double underlug bites, sideclips, Greener cross bolt, rib extension, and barrel lug through the bottom of action, each preventing the movement of the barrels on the action during the firing sequence. The 28” M/F Krupp Steel barrels have mirror shiny bores, tight ribs, clear engraving and matting, and factory 2 ¾” chambers. This is a J.P. Sauer that was built explicitly for the American sportsman, as it lacks the European characteristics of the cheek piece and sling swivels…much more desirable than the Euro models. Vintage Firearms, Inc. staff have thoroughly inspected this Sauer for function and safety, and she all checks out like a new gun. Having these important services already complete should be very comforting to the new owner of this J.P. Sauer shotgun. Weighing just 6 1/4lbs. and balanced dead on the hinge pin, she is sweet in the hand! See the specifications in the tables below, examine the photos closely, and you will see an extraordinarily fine German double gun that will be just as deadly in the field as it will on the clays course. She needs nothing but a new owner, a date for the clays course, and many journeys to the uplands! Affordably priced and a rare find, don’t let this one get away. Thanks for looking.
