Old small brass & leather billy club in fair to good used condition. Measures approximately 9 inches long. Leather holster is 7 1/2 inches long. Baton weighs one pound.
Designed for police and prison guard use, possibly also military police? Patented in 1925.
End of brass hand grip underneath leather strap reads: FEDERAL LABORATORIES, INC. PITTSBURG, PA. U.S.A. Lettering is worn and partially stamped and difficult to read in places (see photos).
Side of brass hand grip below the push button is stamped: PAT. SEPT. 15, 1925 DEC. 15, 1925 DEC. 29, 1925. Brass is also stamped with a small: C 37. Patent info lettering is faintly stamped and slightly worn but mostly intact.
Used condition. The holster has scuffs & scrapes in the leather surface. Stitching is mostly intact. The leather wrist strap is worn and appears to be very fragile - probably wouldn't hold up very well in a prison riot.
Leather wrapping on the business-end is in good overall condition - very tight, somewhat shiny, shows a few random dents & scuffs (see photos).
Brass hand grip shows a little shiny wear and a few small spots of tarnish. Knurling on the end cocking plunger is good. Solid brass sliding safety guard over the trigger button has nice secure, somewhat stiff action. Pushbutton and mechanisms work perfectly.
An unusual & uncommon relic in good condition!
