Century Arms International (i.e. CAI) manufactured “M-1 Rifle" Prototype and Production Models
M-1 Rifle, Prototype Model, Serial Number 10008
The first M-1 Rifle is a RARE PROTOTYPE MODEL that exhibits both the Caspian Arms Ltd. and the CAI marks on the receiver. The right-hand side of the receiver, on the lower portion under the charging handle, is stamped “10008 CASPIAN ARMS LTD., HARDWICK, VT U.S.A.” The left-hand side of the receiver, on the upper rear portion above the bolt release, is stamped “M-1 RIFLE CAL. 30-06 / MADE IN THE USA by C.A.I. ST. ALBANS VT” The right-hand side stamped Serial Number, 10008, is significant as it represents a PROTOTYPE Serial Number that consists of 5 numbers. The first number 1 and the second number 0 appear to be hand stamped, while the second and third 0's and the last number 8 appear to be original machine stamping onto the receiver. This receiver was made by Caspian Arms Ltd., based upon the March 21, 2000, letter from Gary H. Smith, Sales Manager, Caspian Arms Ltd. that is addressed to John Stephen Alexandrowicz. Mr. Smith stated that Caspian Arms Ltd. worked with CAI during the developmental phase of the M-1 Rifle (see the photos). In addition, Mr. Smith stated that the Serial Numbered 10008 M-1 rifle was one of 20 that were manufactured by Caspian Arms Ltd. and that it was unique and a valuable addition to my collection. Furthermore, this M-1 Rifle has an exceptional, tiger-striped, American walnut stock that lends a unique appearance to this M-1 Rifle compared to other M-1 Rifles as well as the original M-1 Garand rifles (see the photos). This rifle was purchased by my firm in 1999 and has never been fired during the past 26 years. The original box is standard cardboard. Letter from Caspian Arms, Inc. is included.
M-1 Rifle, Production Model, Serial Number M0000077
The second CAI M-1 Rifle is a Standard Production Model that exhibits only the CAI mark on the receiver. There is no serial number on the right-hand side of the receiver. The left-hand side of the receiver, on the upper rear portion above the bolt release, is stamped “ M0000077 M-1 RIFLE CAL. 30-06 MADE IN THE USA by C.A.I. ST. ALBANS VT.” Thus, this “production model” M-1 Rifle exhibits the CAI stamped serial number on the left-hand side of the receiver above the bolt release, with a prefix of “M” before a 7 digit serial number. This M-1 Rifle, exhibits serial number M0000077, number 77, which is a low serial number, under 100. Finally, this M-1 Rifle has a very nice cross-grained, American walnut stock that lends a fine appearance to this M-1 Rifle compared to other M-1 Rifles as well as the original M-1 Garand rifles (see the photos). This rifle was purchased by my firm in 1999 and has never been fired during the past 26 years. The original box is standard cardboard. These rifles are sold as a set and will not be separated. As a BONUS, an M-1 Garand Bayonet and 10 8-round magazines will be issued for each M-1 Rifle, FREE, No Charge!
