This a Rare and Scare Winchester Model 94 Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee with the original factory styrofoam box and decorative sleeve, as well as the original factory mahogany display case. The Serial Number is #1xx. The rifle is new, unfired and in excellent condition. According to Tom Trolard (1985) who wrote the book entitled Winchester Commemoratives, described the “Standard” Winchester Model 94 Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee as follows:
“In 1980, Winchester nonored the 75th anniversary of Saskatchewa, Canada with the Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee. The gun features an extended forearm and stock of American walnut with deep cut checkering in the spade design. The receiver, magazine band and barrel bands are silver, with all other parts deeply blued. The round barrel is engraved with ”Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee" in silver letters. The sights are rifle front and standard rear.
The right side of the silver receiver is engraved with elaborate scroll and the dates “1905-1980”. The left side featers an engraving with a field of gathered wheat stalks with mills in the background, elaborate scrollwork surrounds. The upper tang is engraved with “Model 1894 Winchester”.
The silver medallion, depicting wheat stalks and mills with “Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee 1905-1980” at the bottom, is embedded in the right side of the stock.
The serial number with the prefix “SDJ”, is located on the front underside of the receiver. 2700 were produced at New Haven.
In addition, Winchester also produced a special edition of commemorative ammunition for this gun. The 255 grain silver point cartridges come 20 to a box and are sold separately… (Trolard 1985: pages 122-123).
Since this rifle is the Winchester Model 94 Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee Deluxe, Trolard wrote a separate description for this special series of serial numbers 1-300 as follows:
"Winchester also produced a deluxe gun for the Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee. The first three hundred guns were fitted with deluxe wood and come in a display case. The deluxe gun comes in a mahogany case with gold velvet lining symbolizing the wheat fields of the area. A strip of provincial tartan with the provincial crest and the serialized wooden plaque are included with the case. This model also has a diamond set into the front sight (emphasis added herein). The specifications are the same as the Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee standard model (Trolard 1985: Pages 124-125).
