Mauser Custom Square Bridge Bolt Action Rifle ... 338 Win Mag ... 23 1/2" barrel with bright excellent bore ... LOP 13 1/2" ...1" Scope Rings... Rate of Twist is 1:10"...Holds 4 in the 8 lbs. 8 oz. W/Scope Rings.
The metal surfaces retain 98% dark blue showing a few tiny dings. The bolt, extractor and follower are all finely engine turned, the bolt handle which is polished bright has two panels of checkering, and it has been forged and low-swept for scope clearance, the shroud with a low scope safety. Quick detachable sling swivels are affixed to the toeline of the stock and to a barrel band.
The gun is equipped with a banded sporting ramp front blade sight, a 5-leaf express rear sight with one standing and four folding, and a Paul Jaeger quick detachable scope mount with rings. There are no markings to provide a clue to the maker of this beautiful rifle but for the original German proof marks on action and the caliber stamp on the barrel.
The lovely black walnut pistolgrip stock is highly figured with rich alternating tones of black and shades of brown displaying some scattered scratches and tiny dings over a smooth hand rubbed oil finish. Checkering on both the grip and forend is done in a multipoint borderless pattern and is finely executed and remains crisp. The rifles embellishments include a smooth blued steel grip cap, a chinstrap carved behind the grip, a shadow line cheekpiece on the left side of the stock, a thin Pachmayr Old English recoil pad giving a length of pull of 13 1/2”, a triangular horn inlay extending forward from the magazine cover, and an ebony forend tip.
Certainly, a fine rifle in a very versatile caliber which would handle all North American and many African game species.
