Deutsche Werke Ortgies pistols are classic German firearms known for their compact size, minimalist design, and reliable function. Favored by collectors and vintage firearm enthusiasts, these pistols were built for everyday carry, offering solid performance in a sleek, snag-free frame. Their smooth operation and distinct grip safety make them a standout in early 20th-century pistol design.

The Ortgies pistol was originally designed by Heinrich Ortgies and produced after World War I by Deutsche Werke in Erfurt, Germany. Manufactured primarily in the 1920s, these striker-fired pistols gained popularity across Europe and South America for their simple mechanics and compact form. This BEAUTIFUL pistol is in excellent condition: blued finish is at approximately 99%, bore is shiny with good rifling 98%, walnut wood grips 99%, and it will make great addition to any collection. Production of this pistol ended in early 1924 around serial number 224000, making this specific pistol one of the last ones made.

The .32 ACP (7.65mm Browning) Ortgies is a hammerless semi-automatic pistol produced in Germany after World War I, initially by Heinrich Ortgies and later by Deutsche Werke.  The Ortgies pistol was only made between 1919 and 1924, production being forced to stop due to the Treaty of Versailles making it very rare and desirable for collectors.

Make: Deutsche Werke

Model: Ortgies

Caliber: .32 ACP (7.65mm)

Action Type: Striker Fired Semi Auto Pistol fed by Detachable Magazine

Barrel Length: 3 1/4”

Serial Number: 207433

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade integral to the slide above the muzzle. The rear sight is a V-notch grooved in a boss at the top rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth walnut wood featuring a stylized cat “D” logo medallion on either side.  If you ever want to remove the wood grips, there are releases on each side of the internal magazine well that have to be depressed. If you simply try to pry or “pop off” grips, you will break them.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly however the slide is very stiff/tight (maybe a new spring or dirty internally). We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Overall Condition: This pistol doesn’t show any mentionable wear to the finish and retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and operational wear, with thinning on the edges and contact points. There is some pitting in the v-groove along the top of the slide and around the trigger. Walnut grips are not cracked, beautiful oil rubbed finish. Overall, this pistol rates in at Excellent Condition.
