SHOT Show may be still over a month away, but there are several distributor shows before SHOT where the new products for the year sometimes start to leak out. Here are a few that we found that seemed interesting, and that aren’t under any info-embargo until 2014. Some of them are actually available now, or soon, so if you see something that you’d like to be one of the first owners of, be sure to ask your local gun dealer to get in touch with their distributors for a pre-order. We hope that 2014 will not be as crazy as 2013, because 2013, though very busy for guns, saw an unprecedented attack on our 2nd Amendment rights, and one that we barely escaped from unscathed. Going into SHOT Show last year was really scary, and President Obama actually gave his gun control address on the 2nd day of SHOT, that Wednesday morning. Hopefully that stuff is over for now, and we can just enjoy all of the new and useful guns and gun gear for 2014. Stay tuned for reviews of some of these products below, and we’ll again be bringing you two weeks of live coverage from the SHOT Show 2014 floor, with our host, Julie Mac.
Probably the niftiest gun in the room was this four barrel pocket rocket from Edge Arms. It fires 4 shells of .22WMR. https://www.edgearms.com/
Hornady is bringing an interesting handgun safe to market this year. It pops open for instant access using several different methods. See the Hornady New Products video at https://www.hornady.com/new-products
EAA is bringing n a new line of their Tangfolio Witness CZ-75 clones that are specifically made for women. They are called the Pavona line. The finishes have sparkles in them, they will be offered in a high polish, and the springs have been lightened up some and some of the parts made smaller. See the whole line at https://eaacorp.com/pavona-pistol/
Even more interesting from ATI is this new polymer lower for the AR-15 called the Omni. It has a patented steel insert that carries 3 serial numbers. There was a TV running behind this display showing the lowers being torture tested to well beyond Mil-Spec. See all the new ATI stuff at https://www.americantactical.us/
Maglula, the company that brought you the one pass AR mag loader, is adding the P-Mag/SR-25 7.62 NATO magazine to its line of loading/unloading tools. See the whole Maglula line at https://www.maglula.com/
Century Arms is teaming up with SlideFire Solutions to release a specially tuned AK configuration that we are told will work much better than the standard AK Slidefire version. Neither company has the new gun on its website, but you can view SlideFire products at https://www.slidefire.com/ and Century Arms is at https://centuryarms.com/
We spoke to Rock Island Armory before the disaster in the Phillipines, so no word yet on when this 10mm compact version of their 1911 rail gun will be available. Rock Island is one of 3 pistol manufacturers in the Phillipines. See the gun and pre-order at https://us.armscor.com/10mm .
LaserLyte is sending a sample set of these tip over cans that activate on the laser gun. They are cool and a little more interesting than a buzzer or a light going off. Video demo at https://www.laserlyte.com/ | ATN should have this thermal weapon sight available for SHOT Show, and in the market by late winter. It sits in front of your existing optic, like this ACOG, and gives you thermal imaging over your existing zeroed reticle. This is a digital imaging product, so has no “tube” and is not a “gen.” More info at https://www.atncorp.com/ |
Armalite is coming out with an AR-31, which is a short action, .308/7.62NATO version of their AR-30 platform. Beat the crowds at https://www.armalite.com/ar31 | Legacy Sports should have this new 9mm version of the M1 Carbine available to try at Media Day before SHOT SHow. This is an early prototype, with plastic hardware. The gun takes the Beretta M-92/M9 magazine. Full 2014 catalog order page at https://www.legacysports.com/catalog |
Mako added the Springfield XD series pistols to their KPOS products for 2014. This turns your pistol into a carbine, and you need to be either a police department or file an SBR (short barrelled rifle) permit to own one. Buy it today at: https://www.themakogroup.com/xd

When I originally left a comment I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on each time a comment is added I receive four emails with the exact same comment. There has to be a way you can remove me from that service? Kudos!
Hello there! This article couldn
The BulletSafe bulletproof vest will be shown at SHOT Show 2014. It’s a level IIIA bulletproof vest that retails for $299. I think a lot of people will like it.
Hm. Lotta fairly snotty folks around these parts, ain’t there…?
I don’t think the Omni lower’s insert is steel as you say. I read it is a nickel alloy. Proper info please.
Well geez we didn’t know you were going to get a tatoo of the construction of the metal insert buddy. Sorry about that. You are correct. We just got two of them and a magnet doesn’t stick.

Unfortunately, this is NOT the case. The gun-grabbers are just getting started. Especially with Senator Harry Reid’s “nuclear option,” soon pro-Second Amendment cases will have a snowball’s chance in the courts. The grabbers are attacking on all sides. The Elections in 2014 are crucial, and they already are pouring millions of $$$ into anti-gun, anti-freedom candidates. We must not sleep now….
When is Springfield armory going to come out with a larger clip for the 45xd

Been out for a while!
Regarding negligent vs. accidental discharge of a firearm…either way, it’s all about safety. I bought an engraved S&W single shot rimfire target pistol from a well known retailer earlier this year. The gun is over a hundred years old, but is still a looker. I wasn’t sure I planned on shooting it as it doesn’t show much use, but was curious about how it’d feel to do so. I’d read that the trigger pull on these guns was known to be “light”, and decided to check it with a snap cap and a trigger pull gauge. I tested the trigger 5 times — the 1st four pulls each registered 8 ounces, with the 5th pull coming in at 10 ounces. I was about to check it one last time, when the cocked hammer fell before I could attach the gauge to the trigger. To say I was horrified was an understatement. Had the gun been loaded with live ammunition, even at a firing range, the result could’ve been catastrophic. Of course, this is “EXHIBIT A” about why you ALWAYS have an older gun checked by a competent gunsmith before attempting to fire it. Turns out, a previous owner had “tinkered” with the action to make it have a lighter trigger pull. Fortunately no one was injured or killed in the matter. If they had, the situation would likely have been both negligent and accidental, but a tragedy just the same.
Cryptek is spelled is a K not a C.
It’s called a “negligent discharge”, not an ‘accidental discharge.’ A firearm cannot go off “accidentally”; it takes human negligence of some sort for it to discharge at the wrong time.
really….our local sheriff was sitting at the table during a town board meeting, his jacket was hanging on a hook on the wall. he had Jennings .25 acp in the jacket pocket, no keys, pens etc…just the Jennings. about 1/2 way through the meeting, the .25 acp went off, firing a round through the pocket and into the floor. apparently, a catch or a spring failed, allowing the firing pin (the Jennings is a hammer less design) to fall forward, discharging the round in the chamber. yet another reason why i won’t own a Jennings. i realize that this would be one in a million, but it sure sounds like an ”accidental” discharge to me.
Yes, but some people like “correcting” other people’s words, having the view that no way is right but their way, which most likely they learned from a magazine. In this particular case, it also is helpful to support certain prejudices. It’s simply a fact that some guns, with demographically approximately-identical users, have much higher rates of unintended discharge than others.
By objecting to words such as unintended or accidental and insisting that only “negligent” can be used, the fact that some guns in practice tolerate more human error, including snagging while drawing etc, can be dismissed. So it’s very popular with some.
It’s not that the person can rationally deny that the discharges in question are in the category commonly referred to as being “accidents.” No, you — or in this case the author — are just not using correct-speak, which they dictate.
Most ‘accidental’ discharges are in fact die to negligence, MOST, but the simple fact is that no matter how careful you are sometimes s*** happens!
Trenace: You see with uncommon clarity, sir. Onward through the fog.
When is HK gonna come out with a semi-auto version of the G36? That’s what I really want. And not that “sporterized” SL8 nonsense either.
Don’t we all. Don’t we all.
