However, letter states that "serial number applied on July 27, 1897". At the start of year 1896 serial numbers were already at 44360, according to Winchester dates of manufacture. Overall condition appears original - some wear on the blueing on side of receiver opposite loading gate, with minor lengthwise rub marks. Balance of blued parts is estimated to be 95% or better. All wood, stock & forearm, is without any defects, in excellent condition with burl highlights. Hammer, lever, trigger and crescent butt plate are case hardened & with good coloring.
