Description: Original Civil War Non-Commissioned Officer sword, Made in 1863 by Emerson & Silver, Trenton, NJ.

Standard Model 1840 design, US marked. DFM acceptance stamps on guard and tang, applied by official US inspector, Dexter F Mosman.

Original steel scabbard with brass fittings.

32 in. blade still straight, bright & true.

Gold washed or plated brass hilt with wire wrap handle in fine condition.

Although made for Union contract, it is very possible that this specimen may have ended up serving the South. Much Northern material was captured during the conflict, and put into Rebel service.

Made at the height of the conflict - wish this one could talk. Was it issued in time for the Gettysburg Campaign ? Or did it head to the Western Theater and Vicksburg ?

In overall Exc condition, especially given that it is now 150 years old .
